erkin: - we're almost in the road, and so is karsiyaka... (bornova 'n karsiyaka are districts)

erkin: - if your girlfriend pulls you back and goes to another invitation with her friends, there's no need to go there and disturb them all. if she goes,she goes, you have to pull her too, huh. this is the difference between a teenage and a 58 years old man.

erkin: - we always fought but not with our hands, just with our ideas 'cos we'r all hippies, and while we grow up we just want peace. i don't want to talk further 'cos i think lennon was killed for his peace ideas...

erkin: - i'm not afraid of my craft. if time called me to do something before, i went and performed. never think to give account for it to someone, everyone can think in different ways, they're free. i trust on my wrist so i can perform in a small restaurant or in a stadium for 4000 people as now,and never give account for it. before my situation needed to do like that, i did, and when it happens again, i do like i did before, never take offence at that.

erkin: - before i fought with street vagabonds for havin' long hair. i took a knife to defend myself. i have tons of knife scars in my body, you can see some in my face. i'm still lost in amazement myself how i am still alive. but i think god saw me and thought that i had to live 'cos i'm goin' to do good things, so i live. at last i can say that there's a nice view.

friend: - hey erkin, you dropped your leather jacket (erkin drives so fast at that time)

erkin: - f**k it, i can't stop, i'm almost drivin' fast. (they leave jacket on the road)

erkin: - the neighbour's house was burnin' when we were talkin'. noises were coming from street. i ask ask aydin to have a look, aydin asked ataman the same, ataman asked sedat, always the same queue, because after a while when aydin had a look and added "the neighbour's house is burning". we all said "okay, good" then we continued to talk where we stopped. "dreaming the same dreams, not knowing of each other. invoking old times at new places, side by side, not knowing of each other. longing for yearning; light of dawn and midday sun. a world which lets itself be sensed, not known; the first light of your rosy-fingered youth; birches and concrete, touch and go. the new album by swedish group tape is a luminarium of sound where past and present merge at the speed of light."tape is the trio of andreas berthling, johan berthling and tomas hallonsten from stockholm, sweden. this is their fourth album and it was recorded in their summa studio in stockholm.

bio:
swedish trio tape was set up in 2000 by brothers andreas and johan berthling with tomas hallonsten. taking cues both from pop, experimentalism, and minimalism their sound has become recognized internationally and is clearly something of its own. their first album opera was released on the häpna imprint (which johan is a co-owner of) in 2002. working intuitive, all by themselves, they created mini symphonies out of electronic sounds paired with a stunning melodic lyricism. with an array of electronic and acoustic instruments at hand they recorded at a small stone barn on the island of öland, east of sweden. 2003 saw the release of milieu, recorded at the very same barn. these recordings had a more arranged feeling and a clear pop sensibility in some parts. in 2005 they went to cologne to have marcus schmickler produce and record their third album rideau. this was done in his piethopraxis studio in cologne and his involvement left traces; an almost architectonical approach was taken and some of the intimacy that characterized the first two albums were replaced by a harder edge.

in 2006 they collaborated with japanese duo tenniscoats on their album tan–tan therapy (häpna 2007). the same year they recorded in tokyo with japanese quartet minamo, which resulted in the record birds of a feather (headz 2007).

in the years, their touring has taken them to places like japan, taiwan, usa and most parts of europe.

“our collaboration work started with david's obsession with möbius strip, inside surface becoming outside, circular paradoxes. it slowly became a composition process, made out of concentric time cycles. playing the music was like throwing stones on a quiet water surface, playing circles within circles, within circles, etc.

what we were strongly sharing was this fascination for acoustic phenomena, beatings, harmonics. this is an important part of our work on enharmonic glasses, and, as usual, what osso exótico did with classical and exotic instruments still sounds amazing to us.

in some of these pieces, one could hear things like electronic treatments, but in fact there are none. if we compare certain aspects of what we call sometimes avant-garde to extra-occidental musical traditions, nothing sounds that strange or provocative. moreover it seems like this interest for continuous sounds form, harmonics contemplation, glissandi, non-chromatic tunings, non-chronometric rhythms is like a common poetic basis for the whole humanity, and appears in different kinds of shapes in so many musical traditions all over this globe.

western minds are obsessed with logic, rationality, measure, control, but more and more all this sounds like death, and seems to lead us to disasters. while composing this music we never tried to control the sounds, we just chose our favorites and gave them a frame for us to be able to play and listen to them carefully.

it was a surprise when the music that appeared then was almost like songs, and from the drones were emerging unexpected melodies. maybe we were playing, without knowing it, a secret, real, folklore of our strange time.” -- emmanuel holterbach

april 2007 release on/by james hoff’s airport war label/project. in this case the object and its content are irrevocably linked; the record itself is painted/printed off-register one side, with the two pieces sharing the playable side, one in the left channel, the other in the right channel.

the music consists of a hailstorm of feedback (left, presumably airport war if my stereo is wired correctly) coupled with the panasonic-esque repeat-thump/gabber of new humans. separately, the two pieces of music are varied enough to hold one’s interest (to experience them individually, acquaint yourself with your pan-knob) - together it’s an almost wolf-eyes-ian mix of primal thump & cracked electronics; a successful synergistic mix w/out a hint of incongruity...

a nice record, but more importantly, a nice thing. highly recommended ...

airport war press release...

airport war / new humans: the wedding album

airport war contributes the left channel and the new humans contribute to the right channel to a one-sided record. the result is a five minute wedding of violent bliss. cover is an untitled wedding photo (1970) that is silkscreened in off-registered yellow, red, and blue. the wedding was short lived, the groom stabbing the bride several dozen times shortly after the honeymoon.
