  • o.d.b. (7:27)
september 2009 release ; the second album from richard pinhasheldon is all in all a much more “mellow” affair than “électronique guerilla(the acid guitar spray is dialed back considerably in favor of an almost popol vuh-esque countryside flair, rife with copious mellotron & some fine acoustic playing) showing a strong fripp/eno influence (hell, the intro track is called “in the wake of king fripp” for chrissakes & “omar diop blondin” is actually dedicated to “fripp and eno”) ... regardless, this is just as essential a record ...

this time wah wah have issued the record (remastered, sounding better than ever) in a gatefold sleeve (recreating the original disjuncta label issue) along with a bonus 7 ep containing two non-album pieces issued around the same time (one of which, hilariously enough named “o.d.b.”, i’ve become kind of obsessed with - listen to the sound-sample) ... highly recommended !!!

title : allez teia
label : wah wah records supersonic sounds
catalogue number : lps069
format : lp

after our latest string of releases centered around the diverse german 70's scene, we’re happy to introduce the next installment in the wah wah lps reissue series. this time we move over to france to re-discover the beginnings of one of the most adventurous, influential and innovative french bands of the seventies: heldon.

centered around guitarist richard pinhas and featuring a floating cast of regular collaborators (didier batard, françois auger, patrick gauthier, alain renaud, georges grunblatt; coco roussel amongst others), heldon will marry pinhas personal obsessions - modern philosophy (deleuze, guattari), science-fiction (norman spinrad, philip k.dick), progressive rock (king crimson, fripp & eno), american minimalism (terry riley, steve reich) and electronic music - into a diverse musical cocktail that goes from the violent to the relaxed, but always retaining a dark and mysterious vibe.

often linked by critics and listeners to the experimental german bands of the era (tangerine dream, ash ra tempel..), heldon will release six crucial albums before being closed down by pinhas in the late 70’s. since then, pinhas has developed long solo career that lives up to this day, releasing several albums and collaborations (pascal comelade, john livengood, maurice dantec) the most recent being with japanese noise king merzbow.

heldonallez teia

originally released in 1975, the follow-up to electronic guerrilla was a more subdued and relaxed affair with emphasis on richard pinhas guitar and good use of mellotron. hints of early king crimson and the fripp-eno lp’s are again evident in a record that stands-out as one of the more mysterious and intriguing of the whole heldon discography. a puzzling hypnotic tapestry of sounds by one of the most essential bands of 70's experimental music.

strictly limited to 500 copies - high quality gatefold sleeve reproducing the original artwork from 1975’s first press on disjuncta - includes insert with extra liner notes by spanish journalist and longt-time heldon fan paco peiróbonus 7" ep with non-album tracks taken from heldon’s singles of the era.

personnel:
richard pinhas (vcs3 synth, guitars, a.r.p., tapes)
george grunblatt (mellotron, guitars, a.r.p.)
alain renaud (guitar on 2)
alain bellaiche (bass on 3)

heldonélectronique guerilla” long playing record and seven inch single record set

  • zind (2:18)
  • back to heldon (8:31)
  • northernland lady (6:57)

  • ouais marchais mieux qu'en 68 (le voyageur) (4:22)
  • circulus vitiosus (8:43)
  • ballade pour puig antich (révolutionnaire assassiné en espagne) (2:19)

  • schizo (and the little girl) (3:38)
  • paraphrenia praecox (4:00)

  • le voyageur (4:22)
  • torcol (2:48)
september 2009 release ; discovering richard pinhas’ music as a teenager (due to the influence of the fine folks @ record collector’s depot in ridgewood, nj ; r.i.p.) undoubtedly tinted my whole musical outlook just so (heldon led to terry riley & king crimson, which led to la monte young & robert fripp, which led to just about every musical impulse i’ve acted on over the last 10 years) - while “stand by” was my first, “électronique guerilla” here has become my favorite, due to the high-energy mix of “automaticsynth argpeggiations & acid-laced guitar burn that remain pinhas’ trademark ...

this (immaculate, really) issue does everything picture-perfect ; the pressing & sound-quality throughout are superb, and they’ve even included both of the schizo (pre-heldon) ep’s on a single 7” record (in it’s own sleeve, tucked inside the lp) ; it’s the version to own ... seriously. this is one of my own all-time top-whatever desert-island etc ... records ; no home should be without a copy ... highly recommended !!!

heldonelectronic guerrilla

dedicated to robert wyatt, heldon’s debut contained a puzzling collection of tracks that serve as a perfect introduction to pinhas’ universe: science-fiction, philosophy and musical experimentation collide in a harsh lo-fi tapestry of sounds dominated by pinhas1954 gibson les paul guitar and aks synth. not unlike some contemporany german bands, heldon manages to take rock n’ roll’s language to a new experimental stage. convulse and evocative soundscapes recommended to all lovers of innovative and ground-breaking music

strictly limited to 500 copies - high quality sleeves reproducing the original artwork from 1974’s first press on disjuncta - includes insert with extra liner notes by spanish journalist and longt-time heldon fan paco peiróbonus 7" ep with tracks taken from heldon’s predecessor band schizo two ep’s .

ton vlasmanwhite room with disintegrating walls” long playing record

  • to sell
  • fight with a circular course
  • walking in a country lane

  • it’s allright with me
  • mithrandir the white horse rider
  • pale blue eyes
  • story of too many prisoners
  • the end
september 2009 release ; was very excited to see this popup in the wah wah reissue campaign ... tipped off about this record by greg davis, i tracked down a copy of the (long o/p) cd reissue & was just floored ... what starts out as an ad hoc dylan tribute (the first track) washes away in a 16-minute sea of field recordings, raga guitar, tape-echo, and snaky, floyd-ian farfisa lines (the second - listen to the extended sound-sample) that knocks my socks off every time i hear it, merging sandy bull-esque forms with the whole “private outsider universe” thing ...

the rest of the record is great, notably showcasing vlasman’s takoma-esque vocabulary (along with some fine flute riffing) on the extended “mithrandir the white horse rider” & further post-dylan imagery , but yeah, that one track ; damn ... typically perfect wah wah issue with the gorgeous full-color sleeve in tact, plus two separate inserts (detailed below) ; highly recommended !!!

ton vlasman recorded this amazing piece of acid euro folk back in 1970, making it sound like an outter space freaked out bob dylan with the help of frans schoonen (organ, flute and harmonica) and leo van vugt (chincha tumba and tambourine). the seven original compositions are stunning, drug inspired psychedelic pieces of acid folk that mix dylan with indian ragas and even add some pink floyd overtones, yet from an acoustic rather than electric point of view. and the album contains also a very cool version of the velvet underground's "pale blue eyes". if you evered wondered how would dylan have sounded covering the v.u., here's a close example! the album, originally released on the small flame label from amsterdam, sold poorly back in the seventies - thus becoming a collector's piece when it was rediscovered in the eighties. since then it has been gathering new fans that pay small fortunes for a copy, no reissue has been available until now that wah wah offers 500 copies in a lavish edition that will probably sell out soon, so grab your copy before it's too late!

the beautiful cover art and full color poster insert with the lyrics are the work of leendert le duc, and both are here faithfully reproduced as they deserve. the wah wah reissue also features an extra insert with a text by reputed dutch collector jean jöbses and a couple of rare unseen period photos courtesi of the frans schoonen and leo van vugt archives.

the album has been carefully remastered by sound wizard denis blackham @ skye mastering, making these songs sound like never before.

remember, 500 copies only - don't miss it!

guru guruhinten” long playing record

  • electric junk (10:58)
  • the meaning of meaning (12:09)

  • bo diddley (9:56)
  • space ship (11:05)
2009 release ; spanish vinyl issue of guru guru’s second album ... doesn’t hold a candle to “ufo’s” blend of cosmic improv & burning acid-laced psych, but there are more than a few moments of of inspired / derailed improvisation that cancel out the “humour” ...
wah wah press release...

lps050 guru guruhinten

mani, ax and uli do it again: hinten was guru guru's second album for ohr, the follow up to their crazed ufo lp. recorded in july 1971 at star studios (hamburg) with the help of konrad plank, hinten saw guru guru moving away from their trademark freeform jams and into a somewhat more structured and song-based format but still retaining the wild and crazy edge of their debut album. space is now given to lyrics and spoken-word passages but without forgetting screaming guitar action and space rock tripping. mani neumeier delivers some nonsensycal lyrics and primitive howls while ax genrich indulges is his usual guitar onslaught and bebauchery. as crazy as it gets... guru guru were truly one of a kind!!!!

strictly limited to 500 copies - gatefold cover - sealed copies w/ info sticker

wah wah press release...

first-time ever legit ri for this lost gem from the late '60s euro psychedelic underground. belgium-based portuguese soul brothers tony & waldo lam (better know as jess & james) join forces which american jazz man scott bradford and belgian mad scientist & electronics grand daddy arsene souffriau for a crazy trip of groovy free-rock and soul into electronics trip in the best pierre henry's 'jerks electroniques pour la messe du temps present,' cecil leuter's 'pop electronique,' jp massiera's maledictus sound tradition ... for some it may even be close to the craziness of jimmy haskell's 'count down' or the love machine's 'electronic music to blow your mind.'

heavy riffing, screaming fuzz, mind-frying chirping electronics, tribal drumming mayhem, crazy studio effects, groovy go-go keyboard action, stomping beats all over... insane stuff far ahead of its time. must-have for psych fiends, krautrock aficionados, beat diggers, library lunatics and all around acid heads. a legendary record which is still riding high in many want lists. grab it now or cry for ages.

comes with a gorgeous insert -- plenty of photos and info on the band! strictly limited to 500 copies.
