march 2011 release ; ... last extant copies (the rest are being sent up in the 2012 voyager mission) of this “tour tape” from alex “drainolith” moskos & john “outer space” elliott’s spring jaunt ...

basically, it’s outer space with alex’s cabin-door-scratch syn-drums & realistic “concert-mate mg-1” moog scrabble over-laid ; i.e. it’s more awesome ...

new medecine rocks cassette

alex moskos and john elliott bunkered down over thanksgiving 2010 in cleveland to record this lone weird excursion. at times sounding like the mike post score for a deeply unheralded early 90's made-for-tv joint about wet streets others sounding like what would happen had sonny not died and last exit made a record for realworld, minus the drunken brotz. of course.

elliott on more or less synth and synth programming, moskos on mg-1 and guitar everyone plays drums.

cover painting by jessica mensch.

medicine rocks cs

the medicine rocks new cassette offers 7 or 8 (??) tracks of head spinning electronic percussion, vocals and busted synthesizer. quite different than the contributions made with colored mushroom, these tracks see the unit in much more raw form. sloppy guitar, destroyed electronic drum kit, and unintelligible vocals make this a rough rider.

ltd to 150 copies, professionally duplicated with killer art by jessica.

wagon (usa) #wg red frosting cs

colored mushroom / the medicine rocksat red frosting” cassette

  • the route to the medicine rocks
  • blood puddles / sore subject
  • fresh water from the sea channels
  • blotter accident

  • the route to the medicine rocks ii
  • when you’re gone
  • drifts
april 2010 release ; purportedly the final release from the colored mushroom & the medicine rocks ensemble (what a long, strange, hectic, at times frustrating, ultimately rewarding ... trip it’s been) consisting of emeralds’ john eliott, charles szerzen, and sandra serio ...

the trio leave us in fine form, here offering 7 tracks of off-kilter drum machine wallop, endless odd-meter arpeggiations, some stray vocoder riffing, new age style zenith-ascension tactics, some glorpy synth-speak freak outs, and the like ... comes wrapped in a collage-heavy j-card, metallic red tapes ...

as good as a swan song gets these days ; sad to see these guys go !!!

colored mushroom and the medicine rocks - "at red frosting"

after being delayed multiple times along with mr mcguire’s "between family", this release finally sees the light. songs about confusing confusion being confusing. the ensemble moves forward with a malachite grid for the room to change all the bad stuff happening in the basement. nobody is being honest and so maybe the obsidian should be handled with much more care (i.e. put it away) than previously anticipated. no, not new age bullshit - im talking about the little pieces of information which we are handed to use as tools. thats not the point anyhow and besides that, the red frosting is a mystery and its a bad thing anyway, nobody wants to dwell on the bad stuff.

150 chrome red tapes w/double sided collage art.

j. guy laughlinsolo percussion vol.i” c35 cassette

  • solo percussion vol.i (1)

  • solo percussion vol.i (2)
2010 release ; as the title implies - this is in fact a set of solo drum-kit work-outs from the cleveland percussionist, “studio” recorded going to town ala john french’s “o solo drumbo” disc, albeit considerably more “free” ...
wagon press release...

j. guy laughlin “solo percussion vol. i”

one of the most talented percussionists active on the right half of the united states makes a fine debut for wagon. j guy may be better known as the time keeper and main rhythm source of projects like the up and coming puffy areolas, or cleveland's dead peasant insurance. he may also be found in duo formation w/the infamous mike forbes or w/the "electronic key-holder" bob drake

recorded at the now defunct zombie proof studios last year, this marks one of the first widely released recordings featuring just mr laughlin with his drums and assorted percussion and in a very fine fidelity no less. the cuts contained on this release glow with a mastery of dynamics and rapidly shifting phrases, a true guru of free-improvisation as expression. j guy continually challenges himself and his unsuspecting audiences to create a realm where true to the moment expression exists, even if it means taking a live blitzkrieg from the man himself...you deserve it.

this cassette serves as an entrance to the infinite tunnel of new ideas for percussion on a professional level in an era where a sudden mass quantity of amateur hour jazz and jazz fusion tactics live as an extra value meal without criticism. this is as true as expression can be and a brave solo adventure. forthcoming releases on wagon are not so far off

limited to 150 on chrome tapes.
