| | | unknown (usa) #jj 001 lp joe jones “fluxus ain’t dead” long playing record | not sure if this was also released originally by the harlekin art gallery in wiesbaden (publishers of the excellent art hats catalogue, if you ever run across a copy do check it out) or not, but this re-edition was clearly produced by someone from the contemporary art-punk/psych “xerox paste-on” bootleg scene; and that’s exactly what we get... two xeroxed sheets of paper pasted onto the front/back of an lp sleeve, with a white-label record inside...
regardless of the production values, this is an exemplary set of klang from fluxus artist joe jones, he of fluxus-lineage solar-powered music hats and the tone deaf music co. the cover photo shows him playing piano, but the embedded sound-codes are all of a robot/mechanized nature... |
| | | "the music machines of legendary fluxus artist joe jones are a paradox of prepared sounds voicing astoundingly human bursts of free-flight sonic caterwaul. why is it that a roomful of musicians cant muster the sound of these music machines? the sounds herein could make tears flow like rivers from countless communal bangs. the sounds from this tape are so rare that many historians claim they dont exist. jones orchestras were debuted on yoko onos fly and he was a curio to the beatles. joe jones left his home in tucson arizona, bought some california grass. not him? who cares. bring the noise." very highly recommended! |
