fire deathfire death” long playing record

  • smoldering discontent

  • salts brown
january 2011 release ; ... sorted blurst of straight-fire / free energies by the duo of benstoney tuscoosborne (or is ben papa tusco ???) & j. guy laughlin on tape-loops / clarinet & drums, respectively ...

a-side’s a blow-out / up (heavy on the excoriation tip ; extremely gratifying, churning excess ... laughlin especially sounds octal-limbed & super-charged) ; b-side rises from a whimper into a half-caf version of said, with a bit more leeway for textural segments (listen to the sound-sample for a nice bit of ben’s rusty, decomposed clarinet wail & laughlin’s expertly graded rise into abandon) ...

fire death lp

heavy rock formation re-location station, encompassing geographic volcanic jazz fire blasts. stretched rubber band tape loops collide against a superposition stratified manmade stone dam. fractured crust giving way to ash and molten metal. charred remains of soundscape glowing from slow burning embers till it extinguishes into a calcified cool down.

j guy laughlin on skins and benjamin osborne on tape loops and clarinet. mastered and recorded by justin coulter.

leslie keffer / outmodesplit” long playing record

  • leslie keffer - hold you to it

  • outmode - i
january 2011 release ; ... the outmode side here is a little tooon the nose” for me to really spend any time chastising / baptizing it either way ... but ms. keffer’s side is a pure goldwave, riding perhaps the most browned-out drum tones this side of a mainliner record, surging through frozen layers of decrepit electronics & feel-badcoldmelodies that signal ... no ... trigger the end-times chain-reaction ...

leslie keffer / outmode split lp

leslie's post-techno slow sparse slosh beat blended siren drone retake of 2010 inc set. smooth mental transfers of white static energy melted with phases of reality.

outmode side is a triage of ideas seamlessly merged. phantom underlay of doom beats evolve into throwback late 70's cold wave. underground party realm finds dark bowie vox in a geode of vibrations.

fragmentsorts of glass” long playing record

  • face down
  • bed of mercury

  • perdurable cessate
july 2009 release ; first thing we’ve been able to grip from this ohioan duo, consisting of zach troxell and jefffield of hatshatfield (who’s also playing w/ big john elliot in outer space these days) ...

sensing a palpable steve birchall influence (at least in how the lines always seem to burble-out at the end) ; otherwise my language fails in describing the sort(s) of sputnik-lineage bleep-out the pair get up to here, occasionally landing on a nice drone-bed, but mostly launching passel after passel of deep-space telemetry out into the ether ... this comes closer to the late 70s / early 80s home-recorded electronics wave that just about anything i’ve heard recently ... if retro-futurism’s your thing ; bon appetit ...

nautical almanacmelding linearality” long playing record

  • tesseract

  • fake fakir
july 2009 release ; amazing art-object lineage lp from twig & carly (plus mat brinkmann & jungil hong) presented as a feat both of musical enlightenment (you have to admit, as much as the younger people try, there’s just no way to straight ape the kind(s) of circuit-bent grankle that these guys have up to for the last odd-decade) and one of record mastering (the a-side, at least, is cut in such a way that your record needle will be in a constant state of flux, bouncing around from groove to groove, playing forwards & backwards, picking up little bits of music and surface noise before repeating back on itself ; don’t think i’ve ever seen / heard anything quite like it !!!) ...

i can already feel time/space melting around me ; highly recommended !!!

nautical almanac - melding linearality - lp (te41)

evolution of wax, record is designed to continually generate remixes of itself, almost alive. first 12" vinyl release on te. lacquers cut at home by twig harper spring 2008.

"this record plays differently every instance it is played. you must give back." - t.h.

>> tesseract is a four dimensional analog of the 3 dimensional cube. the klein bottle is a 3rd to 4th dimensional analog of the mobius strip. this record bridges the levels between space and time. of course all recordings deal with space and time, and all objects have the inherent power to communicate any concept imaginable. nonetheless, this record has been specifically designed for the purpose of revealing and recieving input from you, it is an interactive medium. many years of research and careful steps were taken to assure that this is the most effective process availble at this moment. to use it simply start as you would with any normal 33 rpm record i.e. put needle on object, the object makes music, and then you will see what this record gives back to you. enjoy.

>> the process of producing this object was multi-tiered. first, source music was layered from different sessions and each session was in turn selectively mixed to the musicians, and re-recorded. this method is very effective in shifting from the self/sub/group-awareness to focusing on the no-mind/voice-of-god/ meta levels of creation. these sessions then were heavily mixed again and the grooves were cut directly on recording laquer master discs. the cutting process was done using very large waveforms on non-linear pitch feed paths so the grooves weave in and out, create multiple choice locked grooves, hidden sections, move inside/out, and floating on the edge styles. the grooves on the record disc require the person (thats you) to have interactions with them. this record plays diffeerently every instance it is played. you must give back, you are now creating with us all, by practicing a sharpening of the calming of focus anyone can become a master at shifting dynamics of living. each time you engage with this process let images in your mind flow along with the music; such as a smooth pebble in a calm river, the turning of a washing machine, a bag floating in the wind. as you enter this record, you must clear your mind of expectations: those approaching it with no-mind and unhinged will can unlock the secrets of the unfiltered cosmos. the object at hand is spiral; embedded within are valleys and canyons of mind formations, the two sides pushed the black globe into a discus, it moves but goes nowhere. the arm to listen to the vibration codes is yours, as you interact with this moving circle inside the listening altar, your listening arm decodes the process. this object is. as you are is.

nautical almanac on this record is: carly ptak, twig harper, mat brinkman, jungil hong, and you. recorded 1999-2006 random locations, winter 2006, providence, fall 2007 baltimore. final mix and cut by twig harper spring 2008, baltimore.
