  • brooklyn march 19, 2006 • live at no fun fest (33:52)
june 2008 release ; triple-disc set (in a lovely double-wide jewel case) offering the complete recordings made by damion romero & hiroshi hasegawa during their march 2006 jaunt from los angeles out east to brooklyn (by way of san francisco / oakland) for the no-fun fest ...

this one gets a little closer to harsh noise realms than the s/t debut, for the greater part these are room recordings of constantly flitting upper & extreme low-end wave-shapes - the architecture of the space(s) plays a large part in the overall sound (listen to the sound-sample ; the hook must have been absolutely buzzing from the rafters on down) ...

a totemic set, no doubt ; almost too much to take in all at once !!! mms’ copies come directly from damion’s “merch table” bin, as such i can put this out at an extremely reasonable price ... highly recommended !!!

knurl - vermifuge cd
pacrec134

since 1994, alan bloor (knurl) has obsessively explored the sound of distorted amplified metal. on scyamine, he creates a scrapyard inferno of roaring feedback and blown speakers, live and raw, produced from found stainless steel.

relentlessly rushing forward, constantly moving through a maze of grinding scrapes and crashes, knurl reaffirms his position as the canadian king of harsh noise.

black sand desert - choking on grave soil cd
pacrec119

cinder block snakes pummeling through intricately woven nests, kneading maliciously at the middle, trying relentlessly & desperately to break through. a silver haired piper tries calling his snakes back home, stretches his vocal chords deep & wide but only whispers trickle out. they move too fast for him to catch. he closes his eyes tightly and follows them out & away, admiring their persistance & brilliant navigation with an envious heart. their scales push outward and gash the softness open leaving shards and soggy ash in a twisting tail behind them. you can hear meat tearing in waves of coarse & uneven static, swelling & expanding as if they carve a new base, a fresh home. they bury their coiled bodies deep inside, knotting tails & heads into electric branches, you can hear the branches spitting up electricity and the way their fire crackles first and thunders immediately after. he circles the landscape like a madman trying to find the slithering escape artists that have left him behind. their buzzing rattles growing larger & larger serve as his compass & guide. he picks up and fondles the skin they shed & tease him with. he can hear them digging, getting further & further inside, spilling wildfire in the folds & flesh. the end is here and the sounds they make reflect it, a blister covered whistling tone thins itself into nothing & disappears. they are lost and so is he...black sand desert is the harsh noise sideproject from greh (hive mind / chondritic sound).

john wiese
teenage hallucination: 1992-1999 cd

teenage hallucination is a compendium of wiese's initial recordings as a teenager to his seminal early vinyl appearances. from pure analog bedroom havoc to intense cut-up harsh noise blasts, wiese steadily developed his highly personal and specific style of extreme music while trying to survive the st. louis experience.

52 tracks in nearly 80 minutes of the best material from his catwoman 7", split lp with the haters, split 5" with panicsville, collaborative tracks with gx jupitter-larsen (the haters) and corydon ronnau (sissy spacek), and featuring many completely unreleased and unheard tracks of isolated midwest basement obscurity.

full liner notes by t.mikawa (incapacitants/ hijokaidan) and seymour glass (bananafish). limited to 1,000 copies.

new grouping of john wiese and die monitrr batssss’ brace paine; ... or in the tradition of other new, non-committal bands like (d) yellow swans: xeaxx xeaxx. remember: xeaxx xeaxx is not musique concrete!
troniks press release...
xeaxx xeaxx (pronounced "heavy seals") is a group consisting of: brace paine (the gossip / die monitr batss) + john wiese (sissy spacek).

xeaxx xeaxx play music like magic johnson plays basketball (very rarely & coughing & sweating alot while doing so). john wiese plays dolley, forks, shampoo bottle, shower, comb & brace paine plays the guitar, the lips, hair straightener, blowdryer, glass of milk & one nacho cheese dorito.

xeaxx xeaxx is not musique concrete! they are the musical equivalent of cum covered sheets. xeaxx xeaxx are not experimental noise they are sexy temperamental boys. xeaxx xeaxx are not punk avante-garde men of the night they are the funk version of vanna whites hard boyfriend, who is also a knight.

the xeaxx xeaxx have found great influence in womens haircuts, yoko onos fingertips, brace paines fathers ability to fix a car & kill two deers in one day, john wieses' video collection & john wieses' girlfriend ("i hope they are very happy together and maybe one day they will get married. i have never met her but i'm sure she is a delightful girl & if she makes john happy then that is good enough for me. congratulations john! can i be the best man? i promise i wont lose the ring, but if i do i will buy a new one i swear! as long as it isnt more than $4,000!! just kidding man i love you, seriously!!!" -brace paine).

xeaxx xeaxx will be playing in a bathroom near you. feel free to call us if you want us to talk about anything (i love to talk about john wiese) at: 503. 753. 1843, ask for brace paine.

astro / damion romeroastromero” double compact disc set

  • spectral vision (18:14)
  • live on romaine 1996 (27:20)
  • astral fight (31:50)

  • live in tokyo 2002 (31:46)
june 2005 release ; double-disc set (in a metal box, no less) covering the first round of collaborations & live recordings by the duo of hiroshiastrohasegawa (of c.c.c.c. fame) and damionspeculum fightromero, ranging from their debut in japan during summer 1995 through a joint tokyo concert, summer 2002 ...

contrary to what you might imagine, this isn’t a pure synth-noise blowout ; the pair delve into headier zones (including a long section that reminds me of that first philus sahkö 12” - listen to the sound-sample) - but yes, of course there’s some real full-on sand-blasting here, c/o the pair’s vcs3 / paia lineup ...

as above, these copies come directly from damion’s stash ; as such mms can off such an attractive price on this classic set ...

troniks press release...
members:
phil blankenship (the cherry point, ex-lefthandeddecision)
john wiese (solo, sissy spacek, bastard noise, etc.)

leftandeddecision is nomore, but lhd is, and now comprises of phil blankenship and john wiese collaborating to create some of the most viscious and satisfying noise out there today. this album is short, roughly 25 minutes, but in that time it takes you through a whirlwind of sounds, shifts and phases, never stopping, never staying too long at any particular sound or theme. the basic modes here are crunchy low end distortion, paired by midrange fuzz and tastefully added high end. lots of panning and separation of the channels (ie different sounds in each channel) and a clarity of texture that's damned impressive. despite being familiar with both artists i can only rarely pick out which parts were done by which artist, but it is evident that they complement each other beautifully. the cut-uppity style of wiese adds a whole new dimension of dynamics to blankenship's distorted rumblings. there are five, untitled, tracks, only one of them breaches the 6 minute barrier, which is good; i think a lot of noise tracks these days tend to be overly long when they needn't be (that's not to say long tracks have their place, because they do). my initial reaction to the shortness of the album was one of disappointment, but after listening to it, i think it was a very wise decision not to add any more material to it. not because it isn't any good, it damn well is, but because an entire 70 minutes of similar material would have lessened the effect of the album. why overstate things when it can be done with more modest means? one of my first impressions of the album remains; curtains is the noise equivalent of what slayer's reign in blood album is to the thrash metal scene.

with simultaneous beauty and isolation, this album isn't a dedication to the my home in rural japan but rather an attempt to replicate the mindset the village inspires and put the listener in the same headspace. please listen to the disc in its entirety. turn everything else off and play loud. - mike shiflet
