senufo edition # twenty nine: joshua bonnetta “american colour” in 2011, a processing facility in kansas, the last to process kodachrome, discontinued the k14 developing process. the historical stock became obsolete. in 2010, i photographed 14 rolls of kodachrome 16mm, which had been stored since 1986. the stock was developed, in the last batch of footage processed. the resulting film is american colour. the film was photographed over a week while traveling to kansas from the birthplace of kodachrome in upstate new york. in the wake of the obsolescence of kodachrome, the footage is used to explore the stocks historic and unique rendering of colour, hue and light value in relation to the american landscape and it’s architecture. the accompanying soundtrack is homage to leopold mannes and leopold godowsky jr. the two violinists whom invented kodachrome in 1935. the piece was created using a violin, tape, processing and site-specific shortwave radio recorded during the photography. the soundtrack will be performed live when possible. joshua bonnetta’s american colour (note the bi-national spelling), was shot on old rolls of 16mm kodachrome during a pilgrimage from the stock’s birthplace in upstate new york to kansas, where its final rolls were processed earlier this year. like a postscript to dean’s kodak, american colour explores kodachrome’s historic use and singular hues, doing so with digital means in the wake of its obsolescence. - andréa picard, toronto international film festival full color gatefold cover, black vinyl lp (cut at sst), no-region dvd (ntsc only), printed inner sleeve with a monograph by irene bindi. 300 copies, of which only 100 will be available for distribution through senufo. co-produced with wndx.

senufo edition # twenty four: stephen cornford ‘binatone galaxy binatone galaxy is an installation for numerous portable cassette recorders which, rather than being used as intended are loaded with self-amplifying cassettes that make audible the rattling mechanics of this dead medium. superseded as dictaphones, the machines become instruments in their own right. replacing the contents of each tape with a microphone allows us to hear the rhythmic and resonant properties of these once ubiquitous plastic shells, revealing the acoustics of the cassette and the voices of the machines themselves. the recordings on this disc comprise a variety of non-documentary auditory perspectives on the installation. the first seven tracks are trios and quartets assembled from studio recordings of individual machines made in bristol, while the final track, recorded in oxford, presents the acoustic sound of the massed machines as they are switched on and off by the built-in motion sensors which activate the work. mastering by giuseppe ielasi. thanks to neil taylor, harriet murray, paul whitty and mike blow for their support. letterpress sleeve printed by ben owen / middle press. numbered edition of 200 copies.

senufo edition # fifteen: bellows ‘handcut’ bellows is the duo of giuseppe ielasi and nicola ratti and ‘handcut’ is their second project. originally released on lp on alga marghen / planam, this cd reissue is expanded with 23 minutes of unreleased material recorded one year after the first sessions. for ‘handcut’, bellows used a simple technique of cutting / destroying and amplifying vinyl records with contact microphones, creating new grooves and physical loops while capturing the sounds on a revox tape machine with long tapeloops. no further processing or transformations were applied apart for a couple of effect pedals and sine waves. a sort of atmospheric and modern electronic music recorded at the beginning of the twentieth century on 78rpm shellac records. letterpressed sleeve printed by ben owen / middle press. photographic insert by amedeo martegani. edition of 220 copies.
