kind of slept on this (these guys in general, actually) but now i’m starting to see the light ; put away any notions of them as merely sunn o))) / growing acolytes & instead focus on the misted, sub-mouthus fidelities on display herein ... there are some really, really great long stretches of tonal feedback-blare & banshee-wail all but buried in a miasma of tape-overload & distorted grit ; even at a fairly aggressive clip it took a few spins before i noticed the cycling bass-patterns (listen to the sound-sample) that anchor the mid-range mêlée, bringing it much closer to the kinds of noise-addled doom concoctions conjured up by folks like tim hecker (albeit recorded on what sounds like a micro-cassette, beamed via satellite to mcmurdo station, then left to crawl back on the dormant transatlantic telegraph cable) ...
great stuff ; i’m going to have to go back & (re-) visit their last few sides ... |
| | me and a buddy of mine started a label called seacave and we just got our first release in. it's robedoor's "rancor keeper" on vinyl in an edition of 500 in pro-printed, reverse board sleeves. it's all the tracks from the oop release the bats cd version, remastered for vinyl by pete swanson and featuring all new artwork put together by britt and alex

sunny california... yeah, right. after several limited cdr, vinyl and tape releases (we are talking about 30 releases since 2005, plus various compilation contributions!), the los angeles duo finally unleashes their most definite major opus to the masses. rancor keeper is a bleak and uncompromising trip into the nightmarish drone-rituals of robedoor. a sinister haze of bleeding walls, humans hanging from trees and rotten corpses returning from the other side. recorded spring 2007 at bored fortress studios, rancor keeper consists of 4 songs with a total playtime of about 40 minutes. comparsions has in the past been made to bands like the skaters and skullflower, but with their unique occult atmosphere, robedoor will always stand on their own. no mosh, no core, no fun.
