| pretty much every year (since the dawn of the millenium at least) i end up, on tour, in newcastle, at 3am, after a gig, back at ben-jazzfinger’s place where we proceed to sit around and listen to records, smoke, drink, etc... i cherish these moments as i’m always turned on to some brand new strain of musical arcana that i had either ignored previously or to whose existence hadn’t even the faintest clue...
these nights always end with ben supplying me with several recorded documents of his band jazzfinger; always of a very high caliber... and i akways end up playing them during my dj sets during said tour before they vanish in a mist of left-behind objects and paraphernalia (those of you who have toured the continent know what i’m talking about.)
...so it’s with great relief that i’m able to present you all with this disc; possibly their first mass-market release (at least the first i’ve been able to get) after countless self-press cdrs and lathes. it’s clear that these folks are enamored with the same universe of challeneged-fidelity tape-murk that fellow uk travelers such as dylan nyoukis inhabit; this disc is rife with musical dropouts, found-sound and overload... but pigeon-holing the group into any one of the current youth-trends is tricky; and that’s never a bad thing. |
