  • afraid of the dark
  • deep in my soul

  • merda style 2004 (feat. equinox)
  • bad boy sound
  • darkside
  • beats in my head
  • strength
  • fire
somehow “merda style 2004” has become something of an anthem around the reckankomplex, all of us going apeshit every time someone spins the darth-vader led cutup of joey beltram samples & overloaded amens... one of the tracks of the year def.
planet mu press release...
bizzy b's follow up to the 1993/94 volumes one and two on whitehouse records brings the old-skool sound of hardcore jungle into the new millennium.

"darkside" and "afraid of the dark" both use "amen" and "mentasm" to awesome effect-- the catchiness of the stabs and riffs just won't let go, and the breaks are propulsive. but this time the undertow of sub-bass catches listeners unaware.

deep dub waters. both tracks are being played by andy c and bailey. for "merda style 2004," bizzy b pairs up with equinox (bassbin, inperspective, intasound), bringing the 1993 original up to date with tearing "acid rain"-style amens and deep 808 bass kicks. currently being rinsed. "fire" is another deep, bass-y, pitched-down amen killer with evil, distorted bass stabs that rip any system. currently being rinsed. "deep in my soul" combines soulful female vocals with dub fx and the ubiquitous break; "strength" has a more jump-up flavor, still retaining the old-skool feel with "mentasm" and "outlander" stabs. currently being rinsed.

bizzy b (brain / joker / sub base / whitehouse) was there from day one playing the raves and on the radio (centerforce, fantasy, kool fm, conflict). he's been releasing records since 1991 and set up one of the most influential hardcore / jungle labels, brain, which also released the debut material of peshay, zinc, and marc caro (technical itch), among others.

whew. was starting to worry there. i mean my pride & joy here, not even a year old was already out of print (after being entirely unavailable in proper retail channels in the us for the greater part of said year). a little wheel-greasing, managed to get the damn thing repressed, AGAIN, with the caveat being i would absorb a good chunk of the repress stock for the shop here... the hoops one must jump through to keep their art alive & available. better price now though.

(oh, and if you’re working at a shop and are looking to carry this, please get in touch via an email to sales@mimaroglumusicsales.com as this title is available at a *gasp* wholesale price as well).
planet mu press release...
it's been over three years since the release of 'oiseaux 96-98', hrvatski's debut album for his own recankreuzungs klankewerkzeuge recordings limited of cambridge record label. much has changed in those three years. keith-hrvatski has toured the world several times over, collaborated with everyone from can’s malcolm mooney & michael karoli to matmos to peter kowald & daniel carter. he's recorded & released eps and albums as gai/jin, keith fullerton whitman, the finger lakes, morlock stomp, and gqrtgwef, etc... in other words he's lived, expanded his horizons a bit. but in the end he hasn't changed that much.

those expecting a wildly eclectic set that picks up where oiseaux 96-98 left off will be pleased, from the all-too-familiar computer-slengteng of 'vatstep dsp' to his almost somber take on the rolling stones' classic "painted black" to the bombastic gabber-skree of "2nd zero" & "marbles" to the milford-graves-meets-morton-subotnick-meets-squarepusher-in-an-ice-cream-graveyard mulch of "re: when" to the all-rock cover of the träd gräs och stenar chestnut "tegenborg".

guitars, pianos, breakbeats, garage sale organ, rhodes, clarinet, 288 discrete field recordings, tons of digital processing, max-msp zaniness, and *gasp* even some singing here & there. the cream of the crop... it couldn't have turned out any better...
