| february 2012 release ; ... ashley’s been batting 1000 over the last year, slowly ironing out her extremely idiosyncratic music, hammering it into its current incarnation :: a 50/50 blend of room-toned, in-situ instrumental (shaahi-baja, saxophone, crotales, electric guitar) crumble (which, on it’s own, harkens back to those long-lost days of late-period new york loft-improv :: polly bradfield, eugene chadbourne, frank lowe - i.e. parachute records crowd) & a kind of confessional, whispered, late-night repetition that borrows from the lineage handed down from karen dalton to christina carter ...
... here, the focus is on shorter, “song-length” explorations that somehow retain the sparse, spectral trails of her more long-form work ; it’s an outstanding listen, as transfixing & time-space altering as it comes these days ... |

| ashley paul - slow boat lp
slow boat pulls out every last sound in the organic world and puts it into a context of sheer beauty and conceptual interest simultaneously. it is masterfully original and well thought out with superb musicianship and puts hope into the polarized world of conceptual vs. analytic.
this is a limited pressing of 300. featuring eli keszler on percussion. |
