february 2013 release ; ... i’ve interfaced with mr. naucke’s live-sets a few times over the past few years (was blindsided by the speaker-shredding set at the inaugural “float yr face” fest in st. louis ... but preferred the gig at worcester’s firehouse, wherein he debuted the material heard on this lp) ...

... working at the intersect of “synth music” and more heady, electro-acoustic zones, brett’s work at once offers an instant gratification (there’s no denying that the more melodic end of things here hits all of our “sweet spots” w/r/t warm, tonal voids) while displaying a finely nuanced sense of “difficult” compositional prowess (edits of processed cutlery sounds cut with shards of analog glorp form into neat, diffuse musique concrète études with certain arid, 70’s-era spec) ; the productions here are immaculate (after leagues of tape-scene, lo-fi blitz, he’s stepped up his game considerably, even booking time at john mcentire’s soma electronic music studios to work w/ said’s collection of elusive modular beasts in a crisp, clean environment) yielding a set that “graduates” him out of the hazy underground & into some other stage ...

... lovely record ; one of my favorites of the year thusfar ... highly recommended !!!

when i met janas some years ago, i hadn't the insight as to the depths of his musical prowess. amongst his endeavors, is his role as electronicist in the neo-psychedelic trio deep earth from chicago, as well as being a boat captain. this multi-faceted fellow exemplifies his impeccable technique and good taste here on simpleton electronics, unanimously, an impressive debut release. from start to finish, simpleton electronics seduces the listener with a wide array of well constructed electronic compositions surely to rival some of the classics. with a unique thumbprint, not unlike tom dissevelt or mort garson, janas' work is instantaneously captivating.

... good thing john “git ‘er done” elliott stepped out of the bullpen & contributed a positively radiation-oriented ooze of thick analogue slime (culminating into a pretty damn “gone” sect. of resonant pulse-out) allowing joe’s hard-forged (pre theft !!!) suite to finally see the light of day, proving him once & for all the worthy successor to the “outsider” electronic “pop” music lineage that runs from his beloved nik “pascal” raicevic through folks like tom cameron & steve birchall (& even a bit of the ‘ol john bender) ...

gorgeous lp jacket (court. of jeremy “ghost ice” kannapell) hides a detail-oriented insert & the wax itself (a virgin, whisper-quiet affair) ; highly recommended !!!

an incredible journey into the inner-space of analog synthesis. soothing, pleasant, hypnotic and manic are thoughts of the day. this cosmic oozing mess of layered sequencers as swirling syrupy frequencies come raining down. raglani serves up some sickly sweet synthy songs and outer space forge a thick gooey side long track of psychedelic electronic mind muck. john is in another band called emeralds.

guest appearance by c.spencer yeh on raglani's "heart of glass" adding a slice of nice on the violin. artwork and layout by jeremy kannapell.

april 2010 release ; yes !!! this record has been in the works for a while now, covering a series of pieces recorded in collaboration back in 2006 by two of contemporary experimental music’s more ardent providers :: kevin drumm and john wiese ... glad it’s finally out !!!

oscillating between long sections of static spectral smear & heavily cut-up, explosion-oriented stereo-field mania (listen to the sound-sample, only but a few minutes at the tail end of side one) ; this is anything but a routine exercise for either party, with kevin savagely bashing a guitar & john transforming said into a multi-tiered attack of constantly morphing gain-stages ...

easily the most “hi-fi” harsh noise recording i’ve hear all year ; the mastering & pressing quality are stellar throughout (natch i love the satanic cat insert as well ; detail below) ; highly recommended !!!

one-sided lp offers a single, constantly morphing blast of uneasy sonics ; wrapped neatly in a black paste-on jacket (with a full, two-column libretto & concept-through-execution plan that harkens back to the nonesuch layout-aesthetic) inside a striking screen-printed picture-disc sleeve (ala the pan-label lps from a few years back) ...

miniscule edition, of which the last remaining copies are now available via mms ; highly recommended !!!
