the dim coast is steve bates first release, a diverse collection of sounds made with an eclectic array of recording materials. the cd is printed in a limited edition of 1000 and comes as a digipack.

steve is a musician, audio artist, and curator currently living in montrèal. his work usually involves the use of computers and cheap electronics (his guitar is often found not too far away, vibrating on an ironing board). an early infatuation with punk rock eventually lead to current areas of interest including site-specific and unheard/ignored sounds, improvised and composed performance, recording, installation and radio projects.

in 1998, steve founded send + receive: a festival of sound, an annual media arts festival active to this day. he is currently the sound coordinator at hexagram institute for research/creation in media arts and technologies at concordia university.

we are excited to announce our first release, moso 001, bret christopher's division;blossom. division;blossom represents a sound aesthetic that is characteristic for bret, fleeting digital pulses, wavering psychoacoustically conscious punctures, and flittery motions, all laid atop a meandering ambient line. the sound being a technological analog to snow falling, or dandelion seeds swaying in the wind. what is unifying of these concepts is the quality of space and how these seemingly fleeting objects actually define a space.

processes like these are mimicked in specific technology, where objects can be split into their constituent elements, broken up, and then multiplied.

division;blossom is the first of a series exploring this particular expression, and is the counterpart to multiples, to be released in the future on moso.
