february 2009 release ; first in a new series of archival releases from sunburned (hand of the man), recorded by, then hand-made & released by hand-member chad cooper :: this is a great set, covering a bunch of material from the band’s early days spent jamming at the con artists’ loft in sullivan square back in 1998 (no, not 1989 as the insert claims - most of these guys were barely sprouting chest hair at that point & shit-spangled banner was but a distant future memory) ... while i do love the mutant-choogle these guys got up to early in this millenium’s premier decade, the kinds of amorphous free-sound collages they channeled back in these primordial times are much more to my liking ; far closer to large-group electro-acoustic improv tactics (see: il gruppo, mev) than any jerry yester-produced deep catalogue or bruce palmer solo records ... an auspicious start ; let’s hope there’s plenty more from whence this came ...
