full text:
kurt sits late at night working on his computer. his wife and children are asleep. he hears a scratching and calls for his cat. kurt: "come noboru, there is a mouse in the kitchen. do what you do." the cat is nowhere to be seen.
in the morning two students sit outside sipping coffee on a bench. noboru the cat comes over and rubs against their legs. karl: "hello noboru. been out hunting all night?" kajsa: "i heard odd noises last night" the cat looks scruffy, takes some affection briefly and darts into the bushes.
morning assembly. kurt: "good morning. has anyone seen my cat? i left the door open last night and waited for him to return, but he never came." karl:"yes, we just saw him outside, he looked like he had been out all night" kajsa: "he ran towards the harbor."
the harbor, a rainy day. kurt whistles , says "come noboru" and stands up straight and unmoving. charlotte: "don’t worry. he must be doing something important. he will be back when he is finished" they stand for a while and listen to the ropes ring against the masts of the sail boats tied up in the harbor.
walking around the halls, going through doors, quietly listening for the cat, karen says to herself: "i thought i saw the cat pass through here in the shadow, but now, nothing" she feels a chill, and goes quickly to find a room with people.
two teachers speaking in the dining room: aeron: "i haven’t seen kurt for days" per: "he is sad about noboru the cat. he goes out at night to look for it, and spends the day looking through old books."
bonfire on a dark, fresh night. karl: "some students have seen the cat out of the corners of their eyes, but when they chase after it, nothing is there." they all sit around the fire for a while watching the wood crack. sandra: "maybe it is time to let the cat go."
some students sit on the grass, they hear singing in the background. suddenly a cat appears. karen: "hey look at that cat over there!" "come here little guy!" karen gets the cat in her arms. karl: "it doesn’t look like kurt’s cat" line: "noboru wasn’t brown at all" karen: "he might have changed, he was away for a long time." karl: "these things happen."
next night in kurt’s office. kurt hears noises in the next room. the cat, obviously not the same cat, brings a dead mouse in his mouth to kurt and drops it onto the wood floor. kurt: "that’s a good boy, noboru" kurt picks up the mouse with a newspaper, opens the window and throws the mouse into the deep night.
