muuttuvat kasvot is another special project by j.koho, who is better known by his groups vapaa, free players (also keijo & the free players), aan (duo with j.hirvonen / uton), and uton (mostly just live shows). his main solo project is called kulkija, which has released few limited edition cdr's so far and he also appeared in last visible dog's massive 6cd compilation invisible pyramid - the elegy box.

this muuttuvat kasvot cdr is originally released as a small print for uton tour summer 2006 in scotland, england, netherlands, belgium and france. it's a compilation of different projects by j.koho, solo recordings, duo or even trio recordings from few years back to the day of first releasing date. 4 track recordings, forest folk drones & small rhythms, navigating from the tiny bushes of earth to sometimes even higher grounds of space atmospheres, still having the own unique sound. really essential, and too good to be just forgotten as a limited edition. taste this, dive inside the moment and see!

i gave a kiss to a giant leech. it sucked me in. with a little effort, i wriggled to its opposite end and out into a different world, but i can't say how it differed from the one before. likewise, all the atoms and other bits of matter that pass through us - that we swallow and transform - bear more or less fresh fruit, as they are reborn through us.

boris morgana's rotti frutti is not just an oral delight, it's aimed at the whole organism. it percolates, hisses, comes and goes: gently as well. furtively it infiltrates the brain through the ears and causes reactions. and maybe these inner oscillations move on to the hands, feet and other organs: maybe they carry the germ of a wholly new fruit. when it comes about, it's too late: everything has changed and one can't but accept it - allow the rotten fruit to issue forth.

aan is a duo by kulkija and uton. these recordings are from their first meetings ever (at least in these psychophysical bodies) in helsinki and tampere, late 2004. music is full of strange sounds and dark atmospheres, deeply in the very heart of the so-called mystical forrest folk illusion. astral travelling, dreams from the other side... some beings in the source, dancing their song for life, death & mysteries.

one day in early 2004 i arrived home to find the biggest parcel i had ever received sitting on my doorstep, it was crudely wrapped and covered in stamps. i was amazed that anyone would post something like this through the regular mail system.

i brought it inside and cut away the packaging. to my astonishment i found that it contained a large old 'orla' chord organ and a letter from marcel bear (empirical) saying that he had noted my recent enthusiasm for organ tones (see also with throats as fine as needles and sunken...).

he had found this one at a garage sale and thought that i might like it. my interest in organs had been at least in part inspired by my reading about charlemagne palestine and his concept of the "golden music". his idea of a stream of sound that may facilitate an ecstatic bliss of religious intensity has been hugely influential to me (in much the same way as haino's 'sound of the universe'...).

i decided pretty much straight away that i would record an album using this organ as the predominant sound source (the only other sound sources are the field recordings of rain on the 1st track and scaffolding pipes on the 2nd).

as the recordings progressed from the straight ahead drone of the 1st track i stripped away more and more unnecessary components of the machine until on the last track i was bowing and plucking the spring pegs of the keys. one of my favourite sounds was that of the fan motor itself.

in the spring months of 2005 ben reynolds began taking yet more jabs from mankind’s collective unconscious and turning them into sounds that love being in your ears. they have since been collected under the title ‘music is the music language’ and kindly unleashed by new finnish label ikuisuus. this is the first cd release from ben after a torrent of cdrs bearing his name came flowing from various corners of the globe throughout 2004/2005.

the sounds contained within the present release were moulded with less care but an equal if not greater amount of love as previous creations; the age old fight between the human controlling impulse and the natural (non) laws of chance ceased momentarily and a brief collaboration between the usually warring factions ensued. the results were welcomed by the overseer of this collaboration as a job well done and has since continued to pursue methods of creation whereby this fight will be done with once and for all.

as for how all this sounds, that’s for your ears to decide.
