if MB made ambient hymns to a dying world, then russian tsarlag fashions the enchanted pop anthems of its monstrous inhabitants.
recorded @ the roger williams cryptorium with occasional help on vocals from the lunch lady, 'open casket' is lovingly dedicated to the memory of the cramps' lux interior and forrest j. ackerman of "famous monsters of filmland" fame. if you've been following the tsarlag saga, you'll recognize the sound of his practice amp and the 60-cycle hum from the 4-track - and you'll welcome the new forlorn arrangements of hypnotic one-string guitars, organ, and barely-there cassette tape mumblings.
a great blend of sci-fi horror pop and modern dystopics, tsarlag remains one of the most original voices in the sub-underground american freak scene.
