comes (like the other 3 tapes in this late-2010 got batch) in a black plastic ziplock (the kind you’d normally get loose tea or spices in) with taped-on covers and xerox’ed “tape sleeves” cast around spray-painted tape shells (love how connelly’s always mixing up got’s “look”) ...

--sobering "partygoer" cassette.

parties can be fucked. i met jackson, the man behind this brand new full on noise project sobering, at a super fucked party. hair police and awesome color were on the bill along with sobering. it was a house party in fayetteville, arkansas. the gig moved along more or less smooth...it was after the sounds that the weirdness began. jackson and i were outside on the porch shooting the shit. the rest of the crew went up on the roof of the house to hang out. when we all decided to go back into the house, no one was there. no one. not the people who lived there, not the people who put on the show,not the people who came to the show. no one. it was around 2am. the house was dark and empty save for hp, ac and sobering. we decided to put on index s/t on the stereo and embrace this strange situation. after a bit, we crashed. we were torn out of sleep a few hours later by a strange guy who had wandered into the house. he was beyond wasted. he smoked cigarettes. he tripped over allison. he passed out on the hardwood floor. then he began to snore. violently. the hardwoord floor was shaking. it was light out. i went to the van to try to sleep. allison tried on the porch. don't know what the others did. we never found out who the guy was or what the hell happened to everyone. this tape is the soundtrack to a party gone wrong.

january 2010 release ; ah yes, i was wondering when someone from this crowd would get around to emptily referencing scientology’s hush-hush “sea org” as subject matter ... the tenuous link between said and the contained sonics aside, this is a tape of “hands off” (i.e. “automatic” - human liberation technology, get it ???) music, presumably created by some automatic process that slowly modulates the feedback pitch in slight increments ... heavy seasickness vibes ...

the elite of scientology's workers, at least 3,000 of them, belong to a zealous faction known as the sea organization and are given room, board and a small weekly allowance. they sign contracts to serve scientology in this and future lifetimes -- for a billion years. their motto is: 'we come back.' dressed in mock navy uniforms adorned with ribbons, they bark orders with a clipped, military cadence. they hold ranks such as captain, lieutenant and ensign. officers, including women, are addressed as 'sir.'

this set was manufactured as a “fundraiser” for their fall 2009 european tour ; mms received half of the tiny pressing to help the guys out (i.e. this is only available here & out on the ‘ol lonesome road) ... naturally, it comes highly recommended !!!

live in cleveland on november 4th, 2010. incredible capture of the newest sickness directions. breaking and tearing sound into strange silences. a bizarre atmosphere hangs heavy in the room...and refuses to leave even after the record ceases to spin. throw your expectations in the garbage can, this is true sonic disturbance.

fairly browned-out full-wave rectification(s), dropping out for a crackly little number before returning to full-bore thud at the piece’s close (listen to the sound-sample for the last bit of that) ... just the kind of thing to turn a bright, sunny day full of promise & wonder into one where you consider slitting your wrist(s) ; straight-up-dismal ... also, highly recommended !!!
