reissue of an lp originally on the cramps nova musicha imprint. the music is a "cheap imitation" of erik satie. nice meandering piano music played by cage himself.

registrazione effettuata presso il center for contemporary music al mills college di oakland in california. non è difficile scorgere il filo che lega cage al grande satie. un filo “critico” che ancora oggi a tenderlo solleva polemiche ed ira inconsuete. john cage, nel 1969, ha composto uno spartito a partire dal “socrate” di satie e da lui definito cheap imitation. questo spartito era una "imitazione" dell'originale, sottoposta a una serie di derivazioni aleatorie, ottenute da un'estrazione casuale di diversi esagrammi del libro dell'i-ching, pratica già utilizzata da cage in altre occasioni.

nova musicha n.17 recorded on a rainy day, march 7 1976, at center for contemporary music, mills college, oakland, california. digital remastering: rds milano. production: cooperativa nuova intrapresa. edition: cramps music/milano. originally released on lp in 1977. includes 32-page booklet with liner notes in italian, french and english.

long out of print, this is the first cd reissue by cramps, digitally remastered, originally released on lp in 1973 as number 16 in the nova musicha series - the work is an exploration of space and sound through feedback ; the album features two long tracks -- "mix a" and "mix b" -- and both appear to involve spare sounds in space, filtered through additional electronics -- often with the effect of a microphone feeding back, then suddenly halted. tudor manipulates the sounds enough to pull out some compelling waveforms, especially on "mix b" -- and the album offers up a much darker side of his music than you might expect from the early years.

recorded at center for contemporary music, mills college, oakland, california. includes 12-page booklet with photographs, score and liner notes in italian. the cover and label state the two tracks are 27:30 in length each, however they are actually longer.

founded in italy between 1964 and 1965, the world's first composers collective, gruppo di improvvisazione nuova consonanza, sought to unhem the purposefulness of their respective instruments and the primacy of composition in order to open up a space for the emergence of free music and unintentional noise sounds.

the music sways between nearly inaudible whir, clatter and scrape and bubbling blasts of sound. their overtures to noise, anti-musical operations and compositional experiments on this disc, like their english brethren amm, completely anticipated a strategic break with the standards of virtuosity.

this work represents the earliest incarnation of gruppo and features ennio morricone, better known for his soundtrack work, franco evangelisti, egisto macchi, antonello neri, giovanni piazza and italian instabile orchestra member, giancarlo schiaffini.

contains previously unpublished photos and original notes by franco evangelisti.

per comprendere questo disco è necessario spiegare che tolles wetter, sottotitolo all’opera, è la realizzazione di una situazione musicale, un luogo dove “noi siamo a casa nostra, ben al caldo, mentre fuori c’è aria di tempesta. gli elementi perturbatori ci sono già e finiranno, prima o poi, per penetrare nel nostro spazio. possono essere il fuoco, il legno che scricchiola, il vento che soffia, così come delle linee che ci collegano col mondo esterno (stazioni radio per esempio). il maltempo si è definitivamente stabilizzato; ciò non significa che l’azione debba sempre realizzarsi violentemente, non tutte le realizzazioni sono come tempo furioso. la realizzazione/ascolto globale dipenderà dall’organizzazione dei collegamenti, alla luce dei quali verranno distribuiti i ruoli e scritti i copioni delle diverse storie della medesima storia.”

tempo furioso è, allora, una delle possibili realizzazioni di tolles wetter, un disco da manipolare, da ascoltare, in maniera normale (seguendo l’ordine delle facciate), invertendo la successione dei lati, oppure, ancora, ascoltando simultaneamente le due facciate, con l’utilizzo di due giradischi. altre possibilità di manipolazione sono descritte all’interno dell’album. “il disco è morto, viva il disco!”

this uniquely original work for voice and electronics is dated 1972. the voice part is read with as few inflections and breaths as possible and the voice activates electronic sounds that respond with inflected sounds. the musical effect is that of an internal voice stimulating involuntary ideas and feelings offering a profound musical exploration of the relation between the physical nature of the voice and social/language behaviors

nova musicha n.3 recorded at center for contemporary music, mills college, oakland, california. though this work is a collaboration with paul demarinis, this original release did not give him equal credit, and this was not remedied until the album was reissued. includes printed booklet.
