fifty-fourth module: moth cock - in pursuit of carmichael's hoagie c30 two live moth cock sides, captured in cleveland and pittsburgh in november 2010. this tape marks two missed opportunities for myself (was supposed to play with them the night of the cleveland gig but got held up at work ; was supposed to go with them to pittsburgh and celebrate my 20th bday but ended up getting sick) that i'm almost glad i missed for the sake of these amazing sets. an excellent picture of the best band in ohio currently. vast, organic sound portals opened with horns, strings and actual magic. best dudes ever. edition of 80, art by pat.

fifty-third module: comet bodies - obsidian cartridge cdr an extra menacing, weird continuation of the comet bodies vision, and the beginning of a new home-recordings era for the project. recorded in the grip of winter in cleveland ohio and originally produced for the comet bodies "tour" (actually just two ohio shows in early february). more science fiction oscillator spray with an almost gross-sounding edge not heard on previous comet bodies joints. definitely the dirtiest-sounding comet bodies set to date. edition of 60, only 20 remain.

forty-eighth module: adema - dream cord c30 bleary winter collaboration between myself and the moth cock boys. two sides trimmed down from an extra-long session at the fairchild house. creepy deep space sub-jazz black hole jams, recorded live with a room mic but still retaining a weird hi-fi sound. extra proud of this tape and stoked to be jamming with two of the best dudes in the universe. also scope the moth cock live tape in this very batch! not to not be confused with the nu-metal band. edition of 70.

forty-second module: prisoners - pass the stone c33 second full-length from cleveland, ohio's best rock band, prisoners. a huge departure from regular cylindrical territory but a worthy one to say the least. at the risk of describing something that i can't just apply a ton of adjectives and weird anecdotes to, let me say that this is the "mature", older-brother release following their "back in the ussa" lp. the band retains their killer straightforward style and cranks out ten tracks of tight, fully realized garage rock that's enough to make me rethink the genre as a whole. don't let my lack of "rock vocabulary", the "buzz-words" or the format fool you, this is a real album by a real band. they wear their replacements & dylan influences proudly but not derivatively (jason will probably kill me for writing that last sentence) and have steadily been getting tighter, more well-oiled and just more insane since their inception (the original line-up of this band actually included myself on bass and sam goldberg on drums!). this album is definitely the height of 2k10 prisoners, one to flip over and over, but definitely just the beginning for these dudes. proud to depart from the cylindrical module for these guys. edition of 200 pro-dubbed (???!!?), sealed tapes, only about 30 copies left.

thirty-eighth module: isle of sodor - double vision c30 best isle of sodor material yet, killer new set from columbus' adam miller, and his 200th or 300th tape on cylindrical. consistently raising the bar for himself, adam lays down easily his most accessible and profound jam yet, side a starting off with winding, non-linear magic brushed melodies, satiny filter passes floating through like dust around a lamp. another leap in the right direction, certainly my favorite sodor yet, an excellent slice of sub-space electronics. edition of 80.

thirty-seventh module: heated void - mirror cubes c20 bizarre collaborative effort of brothers joseph and julian gulyas (synaptic foliage, etc.) tightly composed yet incoherent, truly weird sparkling nightmare electronics. fucked up alternate lightspeed carnival repetition. either really confusing or kinda creepy. drills into your brain then abruptly vanishes, ends like passing out in a mall. c20 of shorter compositions, can't really say too much else about it... super, super strange tape. edition of 80.

quicksails "madison lakes" c28 the new project everyone should be most excited about. ben billington (tiger hatchery, druids of huge etc.) goes solo and lays down the most unique yet logical scattering of sounds i've heard in a while. analog synth, percussion, synth that sounds like percussion, percussion that sounds like synth (??????), blended into a fine powder and sprinkled onto an endless plain of 90's capri sun-style mercury slime. the whole recording is sprinkled with tiny pinpricks and nuances of the aforementioned synth / percussion / ??????? that craft a completely fresh, insanely addictive sound-zone that sounds like every raindrop in the sky solidifying and turning into solid gold. the whole tape culminates with (easily) jam of the year, "realization", full of warm, "insightful" sounding synths and perfectly placed popol vuh-style cymbal crashes. i can't help but feel like this is the music for now, it just feels right. somebody needs to do an lp for this guy asap. weird full-color covers and painted labels in a "get the word out" edition of 100!

comet bodies "steamweaver" cdr follow-up to april's "close to a world below" cassette, more insane vintage synth moves from the same session as the cassette. these ones are definitely far more sparse and bleak than the tape tracks; an hour of black-hole warp zones and endless arp drip from julian gulyas (synaptic foliage) and adam miller (isle of sodor), mastered and released as a cd-r for optimum audial freshness. truly bizarre and kind of draining. guaranteed to turn any vehicle into an inverting, folding vessel that will probably turn inside out and drive into itself. definitely don't drive with this on. weird. edition of 100.

chemtrails "final society" c23 first solo release for jeff host's new chemtrails project. following up amazing tapes on pizza night, tusco embassy, etc... and a recent move from the cleveland area to chicago with this mind-melting, mouth-watering new set of shorter tracks. jeff comes at it from an aerial and unique angle that never fails to leave me both amazed and just a little bit perplexed. seemingly endless flowing tones seep in like floating glitter, none of it sounds played, it just kind of appears. completely non-human sounding yet still somehow bright and emotive. really have no idea where this stuff comes from. simply incredible. i told jeff that side b of this tape is how i wish all music would sound. been wanting to do a host tape for a long long time, so proud and psyched to have a part in this. edition of 100 with acrylic/collage art and labeled tapes in black norelco boyz.
