this highly-anticipated new studio album is the initiation of a change in method and playing for fear falls burning .

on this album he blends his drone spectrum with slow repetitive drums (with drummers such as tim bertilsson / switchblade and magnus lindberg / cult of luna), and additional guitar layers, manifesting a work of mysterious landscapes of ghostly echoes and whispered guitars, long stretches of blissy drift and dark washes of distorted hiss...

over the past 2 years fear falls burning has manifested himself as a wilful and unique statement admits the ever expanding drone music genre with numerous limited and exclusive releases on both vinyl and compact disc and a highlight in collaborating with the epic ‘once we all walk through solid objects’ 5lp set.

the new cd/2lp ‘frenzy of the absolute’ is the summon of fear falls burning’s visionary in teaming up with kindred spirits and talented musicians from the experimental and metal scene.

with mgr guitarist mike gallagher - of renowned dirge architects isis - unveils a compendium of sparse ruminations culled from years of underground musical experience. gallagher has developed a style characterized by dense, sustained textures coupled with a penchant for the subtle melodicism associated with the post-sabbath riff. mgr's effectiveness stems from how fluidly gallagher is able to gradually add texture upon texture, building up the intensity of the tracks until they reach a tragic momentum. imagine isis with much of the bombast stripped away, leaving only dark, moody and melancholic soundscapes… mgr (the acronym for mustard gas and roses, which gallagher has borrowed from a line of vonnegut's slaughterhouse five), is an emotionally charged amalgamation of sounds that, much to its credit, refuses to fit neatly into any particular category.

sunburned hand of the man is a band in the loose sense of the word; it's better described as a banner under which a collective of musical freaks have gathered. so when they toured europe in september 2006, and ended up in the same room as psych/kraut/hard-rockers circle in tampere-finland, they decide to jam together and record all of it. this session was edited down to a total of 40-minutes which wanders ongoing through free folk, psych, improv, spaced out- hippy jamming & noisy-rock bizareness . the collaboration of both america's & finland's weirdest, is nothing less than sensational.

entirely confusing record by the skull defekts (joachim nordwall, henrik rylander, jean-louis huhta, & daniel fagerström) - confusing in that this particular album is scarily close to a jon spencer blues explosion-esque rock-band extrapolation with bits of noise augmenting the overall dynamic, not a free-form noise-as-the-centerpiece affair.

blood spirits & drums are singing is the skull defekts first record recorded in a professional studio. it is also their first one for the avant rock sound, previous releases included heavy sound experimenting, doom variations and electronic noise stuff. it is all about the rhythm. the circle, repetition. the sound. the noise. sweat. funk. sex. the skull defekts sound is a beast going for your brain, feet and the place in between. beware.

the skull defekts was formed by henrik rylander and joachim nordwall in early 2005 when nordwall’s band kid commando decided to end their eight-year carreer as knights of the sweatiest avant rock existing. rylander had been experimenting with feedback for a few years after the death of the infamous swedish garage rock outfit union carbide productions where he was the pulse, rhythm and founding member. quickly they teamed up with legend jean-louis huhta who’s been a key character in the swedish underground music scene since the mid 80’s, and the quartet was complete when daniel fagerström joined after eric olofsson left the band after the recording of blood spirits & drums are singing.

inspired by bands like section 25, lungfish, pil, 23 skiddoo, arthur russel, cabaret voltaire, a certain ratio, brain bombs, dub, noise, funk, and tribal ritual drumming – the skull defekts are kings of their own sound. and my god. the sound.
