the second instalment of chapter’s australian acclaimed post- punk compilation series can’t stop it! comes 5 years after the first, but makes up for the long interval by presenting another incredible array of inventive and often previously unheard music from the period 1979-84. this is a fantastically inventive and dynamic time in australian music history, a time when australia stepped out of the shadow of overseas influence and asserted its own musical identity for the first time.

can’t stop it! #2 features tracks by bands such as severed heads, the systematics and scattered order, and early work by the likes of dead can dance’s lisa gerrard, hunters & collectors mark seymour, and soundtrack composer paul charlier.

the cd includes a 16 page booklet with extensive liner notes, photos and striking design by josh petherick.

japanese cult figure tori kudo has lead mshb since the mid-80s, playing music based on spontaneity, melody and inquisitive experimentation, with an always changing lineup that favours untrained over professional musicians. 25 minute live document includes an extended drone, snatches from other japanese composers, call and response pop, and a brahms’ waltz.

songs for nao
01.02.05. cd album (ch46)

fourteen amazing japanese folk-psych bands, most part of a tokyo scene centering around the majikick label, run by ueno and saya of the tenniscoats, with older bands maher shalal hash baz and nagisa ni te as two primary inspirations.

...

a compilation of the japanese bands chapter boss guy blackman loved most when he lived in tokyo between 2002 and 2004, mostly working in a rarefied world of wide-eyed folky psychedelia.

chapter 37 - various artists can't stop it! australian post-punk 1978-82 cd

a long overdue compilation of australia's incredible post-punk history, featuring the finest selection of bands from the period 1978-82, with many previously unreleased tracks. this is a fantastically inventive and dynamic time in australian music history, a time when australia stepped out of the shadow of overseas influence and asserted its own musical identity for the first time. all of the bands on can't stop it! released their music independently, either themselves or through the handful of visionary labels of the time such as au-go-go, m squared, missing link or innocent records. unfortunately much of the music has since been ignored or forgotten ... until now!
