the second in the joe+n collaboration series (the first being with antony milton.) this release consists of six tracks totally 27+ minutes, this is a long-distance collaboration between sindre bjerga (gold soundz label man) and joe+n (aka joe tunis, carbon label man).

the two traded tracks over 2006/2007, sindre started the recordings with some heavy synth loops/drones/etc. joe then overdubed various instruments (guitars, drums, field recordings), extending/looping the originals at times, to get them to a final state.

[packaged in a heavy-duty vinyl sleeve with a transluscent red "dimple" cover, artwork beneath, and wrapped in a band of metallic foil tape.]

“a needle in one arm and a bouquet in the other”. this is kelli shay's first full-length album. the thirteen tracks here were recorded in 2005 in chicago with butchy fuego of pit er pat. buck again is not unlike kelli's live performances in its sparseness, but each song flows into the other with the addition of ambient sounds that weave through an instrumentation consisting of little more than guitar, autoharp, violin, and voice.

[each package is unique-- hand-painted in gold and silkscreened in nashville, tennessee at isle of printing.]

this is a recording of a sound-installation created for a photo exhibit by kate laux, entitled self-portrait collaborations. "the project began 4 years ago as a way to stay connected with friends and family as i moved, travelled and moved. i would mail out rolls of film or disposable cameras and ask my collaborators to shoot self-portraits. the collaborators were instructed to mail the film back to me. i processed/printed their film and mailed them proofs or contact sheets. i created a new project by responding to my collaborators work in whatever way my collaborator chose, unless they gave no indication of how i should respond. my collaborators are aware that these works will be exhibited."

borrowing from kate's theme of request-for-submission/collaboration, i asked various people i know to record themselves and/or their surroundings, and send me the results. i did not restrict them to any theme, format or content. i, in turn, recorded my surroundings in the weeks leading up to this exhibit. the majority of my recordings were based on night-time sounds around my house, primarily crickets. on 3 straight nights, i recorded the flower garden below my front porch, where a cricket set up camp. i used small microphones, which i was able to lower into the plant field and maneuver in close proximity to the cricket, without disturbing it. aside from the obvious macro-drones of the cricket songs, i also heard an entire set of new sounds i've never noticed. clicks, pops, static, the sound of the cricket starting and stopping its song, anomalies in its rhythm. and other "disturbances." i then took these source recordings and laid them out in such a way as to juxtapose my friends describing themselves or their surroundings, and the cricket "describing" my surrounding.

ah, my old friend the co-release. it’s been a few years (last one i can remember was that nels cline single that was released by a few coley-orbit orgs back in the mid 90s). this one by no less than 5 labels (breathmint, carbon, gameboy, little mafia, and sunship). listed here as a gameboy release as, well, these copies are from mike and that’s the end of that...

sonically... gjerstad’s rifling through some sort of duck-call / tortured emperor-penguin real-book, lasse’s all rumble-pit & hades-brim/sampled fireworks (laptop? i assume he’s playing a laptop computer...).

actions herein are separate, hardly equal, yet compellingly meshed into a single sound-form. a-grade contemporary electro-acoustic improv...

oh man. must be that these norwegeians get bored out of their minds inwinter. something keeps them rocking out an insane number of releases.

these two boys have joined forces before, but that doesn't mean you've heard anything like this. gjerstad unleashes free noise flotation saxophone licks from somewhere between his lips and his lungs. marhaug backs him up with electronics that range from glitch-like to to lo-fi to just straight rumbling. he manages to run all over the place, but frode's overpowering sax (and his consistency with it) keeps him in line.

co-released with carbon, sunship and breathmint. first gameboy disc to come all shrinkwrapped and fancy-like. it even has an anti-theft device so if you try and lift it from the virgin megastore, you are so busted.

i put on a coat i haven‘t worn in a while. and in a pocket i guess i haven‘t used in a longer while, i discover a receipt (for food, i believe). almost from 10 years ago to the date. it got me thinking about how quickly time passes, and how fragments can pull us back, mentally, to a previous time, place (physical and mental). a smell, a sound, a feeling. pretty neat stuff. the backdrop of this recording consists of an uneditted walk in the neighborhood right around sunset. at the beginning, you‘ll hear cicadas singing out loud. as the recording goes on, the sound slowly (almost imperceivably) transforms into crickets singing. somewhat showing the transformation of time without perception. there are overdubbed guitar pieces on occasion, showcasing nothing in particular (well, maybe something having to do with events that stand out, etc).

blocks consists of feedback loops generated with analog equipment. signals were generated with a synthesizer, combined through an effects processor which fed the signals back into itself. also, recording signals for adat recorders were fed through a mixing board, processor and then back then back into itself therefore creating a loop. all of the sounds on this recording were generated in real time and were only manipulated to combine tones. there is no signal processing outside of the real time system.
