in the hectic year 2001, goem played around the world: at mutek, in japan, england, austria, the uk, spain, france and in between on various locations they worked on their 'abri' cd, which was released later in 2001. also they organised the 'gast' cd, with various people (matmos, taylor deupree, richard chartier etc) at the controls of goem equipment. for the constant changing minds of goem all of this activity was also the end of an area. it was thought that the working methods of goem had been well-explored and nothing needed to be added. in the 2002 they produced a three minute sound piece for an installation and after that: silence. with peter duimelinks and roel meelkop in rotterdam and frans de waard in nijmegen it was also not very easy to meet up, also due to their personal busy schedules. early 2004 frans de waard got access to the sound studio connected to local arts initiative extrapool, notorius for the recordings of the brombron project.

in the studio a wide array of vintage synthesizers can be found and new goem recordings were made. roel meelkop and frans de waard recorded a remix of esplendor geometrico and peter duimelinks and frans de waard a soon appear 10" record for auf abwegen. with all machinary at hand, frans de waard also recorded eleven new tracks as goem. expanding on the known concept, he now incorporated breaks in the music, and some tracks do not rely on samples but on pure synthesizer tones; others were solely recorded using software. this record breaks away from the old goem and walks new paths. goem as a trio will continue to exist and record new material in the future.

the goem cd on atak was made using: g4 computer using pro-tools, peak, ixi and ableton live. analogue synthesizer include: arp, juno, korg and roland synths.

comments:

standard-bearers for the dutch noise experimental scene kapotte muziek and thu20 took the invasion of techno embodied by electronic dance music and turned it on its head, creating goems monotone-groove electronic sound.this album is the latest installment of their click-cut-rocknroll.

there are few greater pleasures than being able to release an album by goem, one of my favorite bands. how much do i like them? i own nearly all of their cds and the audio.nl label they run is one of the few that i trust enough to buy a cd just because they released it.

somehow it seems we have the same musical sensibility. but their sound is unlike any other, and this album is no exception. the way their music focuses on the totally controlled texture and rhythm of computer-generated sounds is truly revolutionary. and their look makes it even cooler.

i have once released stilluppsteypa's album "has(or has not) happened" for a label "meme". the album was a full of mystery although i was involved in. it seemed to be puzzling what they wanted to do, how they did it and why it was like that. stilluppsteypa themselves is under wraps. their music is roughly categorized in experimental electronic music. but their sound is not like any other artists at all. their mysteries are now deepened more than ever in the latest album, in which one of a member left and they becomes duo. stillupsteypa is a sphinx of electronic music.

i am still enjoying listening to this album at my studio. i love it so much. honestly, this is for a person with hangover. it's like seeing sound with naked eyes and then finding it bit by bit as particles through microscope.

atak001 slipped disk

slipped disk is a laptop duo formed by founding members of the atak label, musician keiichiro shibuya and dj/model maria. with its exciting blend of complex electronica sounds and hard rhythmic grooves, their november 2002 debut album atak 001 slipped disk caused a stir in cutting-edge music, art and design scenes.

thomas brinkman (a.k.a. soul center) acclaimed: "a powerful hypnotic trip. cyber romantic, full of surprise! cgood sound! i like it."

slipped disk has performed with artists such as carsten nicolai, karafoto, numb, dj klock, staubgauld, portable[k]ommunity, merzbow, and aoki takamasa.

live performances highlight slipped disk's unique style. as various sound files are fragmented and then recombined, the duo's minimal sounds acquire a threatening tenseness, resulting in danceable tracks.

in december 2002 after releasing atak 001 slipped disk, keiichiro shibuya took part in a pre-opening event and a compilation cd for the mori art museum. the cd, open mind, consisted of new work by some of the most important sound and media artists working on digital technology, such as masami akita (merzbow), ryoji ikeda, numb and takamasa aoki, and others.

slipped disk releases its music on record label, atak, but producing music is just the beginning of atak's capabilities. atak is comprised of specialists in fields ranging from programming, space and product design to visual art, graphic and web design. future projects for atak will include the production of science technology, fashion and installation, all of which aim to take music out of its framework to focus on its essence.
