may 2011 release ; ... in my mind, blue o’randa can do little wrong ; here he drops a gorgeous set of “holisticelectronic music that channels the infinite wisdom of iasos (some of the harmonized float-voids are eerily reminiscent), raicevic, leedy (ognob generator, anyone? just listen to the sound-sample), birchall, et.al via “synthesizer & voicetapestries that look not exclusively towards pyramidic formations of past, but long, arduous journeys up a mountain, then back down the other side, as well ...

imaginary softwoods - the path of spectrolite

the path of spectrolite is the latest full length recording from imaginary softwoods. early comments have praised this album and state that while this recording retains some if the icy drone sound from some previous softwoods release, this is a great progression and a bit more active. an extremely beautiful album entirely of sounds created by synthesizer and voice, this is an essential piece of the imaginary softwoods discography that you are sure to love.

pressed in an edition of 535.

may 2011 release ; ... reissue of heather nicole young (aka 1/2 of social junk) ‘s 2008 ranky tanky solo debut ... awesome, blown-outsongs” that have more to do with macronympha than grouper ...
amethyst sunset press release...

as-010 - hny - "here you can touch the sky" lp

very excited to be able to present the vinyl issue of hny's "here you can touch the sky". over the past few years, hny has released some stellar cassettes through ranky tanky, not not fun, and goaty tapes when finding some free time from shredding with social junk. here you can touch the sky is a half hour full of haunting guitar + vocal work that was released in 2008 through ranky tanky and is now ready to shine on vinyl. this record collects all the songs from the original cassette release and includes one previously released instrumental.

limited to 500 copies on clear with orange splatter with a printed 11x11 insert with lyrics.

1958-2009s/t” long playing record

  • untitled (1)
  • untitled (2)

  • untitled (3)
september 2011 release ; ... after a well-received trilogy of tapes on mattearnsullivan’s ekhein, here’s the vinyl debut from the duo of matt & alexmirror to mirrortwomey’s 1958-2009, named in respect of the passing of michael jackson ...

... three long tracks of reigned-in guitar & keyboard stasis ; harkens back to the first wave of ekhein & arbor releases (in that all three pieces share the same mode / tonality, wavering only in timbral complexity) ; a great moment, frozen across two sides ...
amethyst sunset press release...

as-009 - 1958-2009 lp

matthew sullivan (earn / ekhein) and alex twomey (mirror to mirror / jugular forest) provide us with the most beautiful guitar / synth ballads recorded on the one year anniversary of the king of pop's death. all brand new material and not released on any of the previously released cassettes

looped arpeggios introduce themselves almost too smoothly to bear semblance to a guitar, and conversely their timbre and dependence of acoustics are inseparable, veiling any hint of electronic association. with unwavering correspondence all voices align with one another, migrating to each phase harmoniously. weaving together every phrase is a simple yet effective resonance. be it the dimensions of the recording space or a commonality between sullivan and twomey's pedal chains, shimmers and rumbles birth a multifarious and coalescent pastoral.

february 2011 release ; ... some real weirdo antics going on here, where sword heaven’s mark van fleet & american jobsnathan reynolds have set up camp, turned all their drum machines down as low as they’ll go (i wonder if you can actually power-starve a dm, like you can with a marshall stack ... no wait, you can’t) & have essentially been sustaining themselves on a thick paste of peanut butter & sriracha while attempting to concoct the “great american album” ...

and wouldn’t you know ; they’ve done it !!! trade in the rhythmic flair of sword heaven for more of a desultory, ohio-basement bummer trip, and you’re there ... equal parts blown / slown club beats, soul-baring, and raw, amplified electricity ...

providien
"followed by a wraith"
amethyst sunset 008

the midwest is a real shangri-la for bohemia basement bleakness so it’s not real surprising that loner tape grime duo providien hail from the snow-blasted state of ohio, and have a grim grassroots aura that just feels right.

led by sword heaven electrician mark van fleet and partner-in-crime/childhood friend nathan reynolds (also of weirdo goths american jobs), providien’s debut, “followed by a wraith”, sprawls from disembodied horror atmospherics to no-fi sludge death marches to pure weirdo home-taper acoustic guitar meltdowns, each new zone more unsettling and brainwashed than the last.

has elements of mammal (especially the recent drone-suicide ballads), the shadow ring (just replace all the british stuff with raw american sloth), and various other esoteric cassette miserablists, but that’s just a roundabout way of saying this shit rules.

mistglowing net” long playing record

  • a.m.

november 2010 release ; vinyl issue of the third (after the “certain expansion” and “stole colors” tapes)pizza wagon(i.e. co-released on both pizza night & wagon) title from mist, aka pizza night’s sam goldberg and emeralds / wagon’s john elliott ...

six takes, each of a different, yet lovely assemblage of burble-out synth drippings, recalling tangerine dream’s 80’s film-score work ... eclipses even the recent/excellent “s/tamethyst sunset lp for sheer brain-melt applications ... highly recommended !!!

mist "glowing net"
amethyst sunset as-007

much welcome vinyl issue of the 2010 cassette release from john elliott (outer space, emeralds) and sam goldberg (radio people, docile dawn) that sold out at the source and distros rather quickly. further exploring of the zones on the previously released "mist" lp, the duo take it one step further with their electronics unleashing a record which sounds like it could be the soundtrack to an amazing 70's / 80's sci fi movie. the tracks have been remastered for vinyl by james plotkin, and the vinyl lacquer was cut for 45rpm at d+m in berlin.

pressed in an edition of 750 copies.

keith fullerton whitman / mike shiflet070325 b/w 080409” long playing record

  • keith fullerton whitman - 070325 (14:32)

  • mike shiflet - 080409 (19:50)
june 2010 release ; ... following on from the no fun productions split with carlos giffoni, here’s the second in the “split series” of lps issuing my initial “synth concerts” from 2007 & 2008 (further volumes in-the-works from amish & dekorder) ...

the piece here is rather special ; for the only time in my professional life i broke the “don’t play at gigs you set up” rule & put myself first on a bill with heathen shame, carlos giffoni, burning star core, and prurient, just so i could get in a set of gnarly, rectified, slowly-opening moog-topology low-pass-filter pulse at ear-splitting volume out of a mono, 550w keyboard amp to a fairly sizable turnout (for a saturday night in the wastelands of union square, somerville, at least) ...

amethyst sunset’s william berry chose a liveguitar/drone” piece by columbus mainstay mike shiflet for the b-side, and it’s a doozy !!! consisting of a long patch of pulse-wave modulating tones, a growing wall of grizzly pitch-altered rumble (creating a lovely, if unstable major fourth) gains in pressure, laying out for a spell before a series of guitar parts (run through a low-frequency ring modular from the sound of things) come in & the piece builds to a buzzy, echo-laden climax ...

nice, full-color sleeve (with design & layout by mike) hides a 180-gram lp with full-color labels ...

as-003 - sean mccann - "sincere world" lp

listening to new work from sean mccann is always an exciting prospect. go far back into this young pioneer's catalog and you'll without a doubt uncover a collection of music as diverse as it is long. what you may also notice is the consistency with which sean portrays himself.

his music is always fearless, frank and personal. sincere world is another turn toward sean's signature earnestness. open resolve and the capital, both cleverly laced with swirling filter manipulation and confounding superimposition of manic and sloth-like compositions, exposed us to a more playful side of mccann's persona.

these works are on the surface a bit zany, but deeper down they still maintain a charming character — something that draws the listener in magically. sincere world is the somber younger brother to these two. sincere world is adrift on badalamenti-like lethargy, skeptical of the world around and unsure of what to do about it.

but despite his bashfulness, he is every bit as charming and perhaps even more so, for there are no rough edges on him. in six movements, sean takes us from under the bed to behind the bleachers and finally, to the bottom of the sea. recorded mostly in 2009, sincere world has after two years in hiding, finally mustered the audacity to come out into the open. this is the world sean mccann lives in, and i want to do everything i can to live there too.
