| you certainly can’t fault the adaadat crew for just being fun; every time i end up hanging out w/these guys, playing one of their london-area gigs, or spending a night at bjørn’s spacious hackney estate, i always get a nice warm feeling that i rarely get in the midst of most folks directly involved with contemporary electronic music . these guys are into what they do, and they’re personable, fun guys at that...
this is the third comp on the label, and, much like the first 2, it runs a wide gamut. only in this installment, i’m really getting the feeling that the sort of post-idm/squarepusher type of music that was certainly the focal point when the label began has now been waylaid in favor of a more rampant lo-tech/anti-linear experimental vibe that, frankly, is a hell of a lot more interesting in the here & now.
sure, there are still the campy/puerile titles, but we’ll forgive... it’s a great comp. there’s even a little excerpt from an insanely inebriated free-noise improv duo between myself and shige “dj scotch egg” ishihara that i actually didn’t remember until this disc arrived... and in fact; now that its here i really don’t remember it... i do remember hunting for “fry-duh CHACK’n” in a tesco @ 3am though... good times, good times... |
