really love this clip ; it’s interesting how turned-off i was by the vocoded speech at the beginning, but how amazing the same sounds became when framed in the context of pinball-machine music !!!
the synth-freakout at the 2:08 mark sounds like the best thing ever ::

the reality of karel appel ...
big thanks to françois carrier for the heads-up fantastic mini-documentary, showing brut artiste & musique concrète composer karel appel at work, sound-tracked with music from his “musique barbare” lp (composed at the instituut voor sonologie in utrecht ca. 1963 with frits weiland, jaap vink, and will eisma !!!) ::
(for the impatient :: skip to 8:30 or so …)

shelves ahoy ...
the remainder of the shelving has finally arrived ::
ten different seven-foot-tall unfinished wood beasts custom-built by the fine folks over @ boston wood. now i can finally get to filing the rest of cds (seen in images below housed in $5 plastic tubs stored on metro-shelving) - it’s been a strange few weeks ; cds with catalogue numbers starting with # - p have been easy to find, but locating anything starting with r - z has involved a hunt-and-peck scenario … also, recently i put together this little beauty ::
that’s the new stereo bench ; just enough room for the receiver / cd player and the turnable. the laptop on the stand gets a feed from the stereo, very usefuly for lp-transcription purposes …

starting to feel like home again ...
yesterday & today were the first real tests of the new setup; i must say things are considerably more streamlined now that all of the records & cds are finally up on shelves and accessible/findable again … i’ve gotten everyone’s orders sorted out & will be packing the remaining outstanding orders from before/during the move tomorrow morning…

it’s beginning to look a lot like ...
— keith fullerton whitman @ 9:55 am February 5, 2008
two days in ...
… and the move is going well, i’d think. about half of the cds are over in the new space, waiting for their shelving units (which are being built as i type by the fine folks over @ boston wood) - everything’s currently living in tubs either on the floor or on some cheap & quite durable metro shelving (procured at the local branch of french mega-mart targét) :
the shipping station arrives tomorrow, but theinternetwon’t until the 6th of february. refrigeration unit has been sourced, as has comfy sitting couch(thanks brian & kelly !!!) - still looking for a brushed-metal industrial grade garbage can, but i imagine these can be found locally …
today, for the first time i was there during the morning/early afternoon & i must say the sunlight coming in was quite lovely; as was the intermittent rumble of the commuter rail(the fitchburg line runs right behind the building, with a stop about 500 feet away in porter square … )
this afternoon i’ll be packing the remaining orders placed up until sunday @ midnight & shipping everything tomorrow morning. i imagine the space will be work-in-able by next monday, even w/o internet, so we’re pretty much on schedule for the resumption of activity on the 4th. exciting !!!
