february 2008 release ; a one-sided lp featuring the duo of lambsbread’s zac davis (guitar) and graveyards’ ben hall (drums) - zac’s joe morris idolatry comes across as clean as his tone, but the best comparison i can make (which has been made time & time again - i know - but it’s apt ... ) is to the derek bailey / jamie muir “dart drug” lp on incus ...

suburban michigan is a breeding ground where every weirdo has a label, a band, and a handful of secret/under the radar collaborative projects. here graveyards' ben hall and lambsbread's zac davis create a monolithic one sider influenced by too many private press jazz records and abstract instrumentalism.

davis turns in his effect pedals for nothing; pure clean tones plucked up and down scales and bridges so uniquely that it is easy to confuse the guitar for a sax. ben hall drums like a man with four arms; constant rattling trap tapping and assorted pots and pans clattering, flowing completely smoothly. a perfect union of sound.in an edition of 300 copies in screened chipboard sleeves by anthony decanini.

february 2009 release ; second lp from this zac-davis-led troupe, with ties to no known spheres of logic ...

i’m on record as a fan-for-life of zac’s various transgressions ; this one ups the ante from the similarly seagal-themed “hard to kill” while simultaneously bringing the energy levels down ... these short song-nuggets certainly have a head-nod flair to them (listen to the sound-sample for one of the more “right on” blasts) & the tempos pretty much stay in the lumbering range(s), with much lo-fi drumming pitched down about an octave for that ‘tussin come-down effect ... righteous.

above the law is a 1988 action film directed by andrew zachariah davis, probably best-known for being the film debut of steven seagal. this tribute album features the full sky juice rock band lineup of s.j. jackson, s.j. jones, stoney freeman, & zac davis and was recorded between 2004 and 2008 in various ohio / michigan / massachusetts basements. except for "electric engram" which is excerpted from an infamous/aborted live radio broadcast on chicago's legendary dance station wgci.

limited pressing of 375 copies, spraymounted covers, xeroxed collage insert.

vinyl debut from the legendary/mythical sky juice twins. the brothers sky juice jones and sky juice jackson are musical telepaths and simply have no fear, riding the groove as long as it takes to navigate the back alleys of cleveland's most dangerous neighborhoods.

severely mangled guitar gunk astral-projected from deep inside the twisted lobes of lambsbread's zac davis. unavoidable private press vibe, with mumbled cliff's edge moan and groan vocals, drums courtesy of the corwood session-player circa electric end, and guitar rave-ups that share a tattered couch with the index, raven, low end lars, and vulcan.
