| folk forms evaporate big sky by who cares how long you sink smr001 • 2007
2001 - who cares how long you sink is a group devoted to the slower aesthetic of musical movement. it is an attempt at making music move at a pace that closer represents the movement and growth of nature. representing something like the moons travel across the night sky and/or a tree's sway in one area of that sky, rather than locomotion or some societal action. most material is played during the musicians’ natural inhales or exhales and not to an external clock. allowing everyone to move at their own pace through the material, becoming one layer in the stack of sound, motion and harmonic possibilities.
2007 - now the sinking process has also become an orchestration for folk songs
the group is led by jason ajemian and features contributions from josh berman, josh abrams, emmett kelly, keefe jackson, and frank rosaly to name a few.
a bit about jason : jason ajemian is a double bassist and composer living in chicago. he moved to chicago in the fall of 2000 after receiving a bachelors degree in music from william paterson university. there he studied with bassist rufus reid and composer kevin norton. by mid 2001 he was a professional musician playing four to six nights a week throughout chicago’s most noteable venus; such as, the chicago cultural center, the chicago jazz festival, millinium park, the empty bottle, the hungry brain, elastic arts foundation, heaven gallery and the velvet lounge. this lead to local record labels interest and support. by 2003 many of his collectives for composing and performing began to get international recognition, which has taken him throughout europe, canada and the us to perform. the end of 2006 and early 2007 holds new releases from: daydream full lifestyles, who cares how long you sink,, dragons 1976, a cushicle, lay all over it, the exploding star orchestra and the chicago underground trio. |
