ash 8.8 - thomas ankersmit - live in utrecht released: 2010 cd in jewel case 1 track, 39:18 photography by alexandra leykauf recorded on november 17th 2007 at rumor, utrecht, netherlands. thomas ankersmit: serge analogue modular synthesizer, computer, alto saxophone. pre-recorded saxophone and reel-to-reel parts composed by valerio tricoli, with source material by ankersmit. mastered by denis blackham at skye. thomas ankersmit is a 30+ year old saxophonist, electronic musician and installation artist born and raised in the netherlands and now primarily based in berlin who combines abstract, intensely focused saxophone playing with hyper-kinetic analogue synth and computer improvisation. he also creates installation pieces that use sound, infrasound and "modifications to the acoustic characters of spaces" that disrupt the viewer/listener's perception of the exhibition space and their presence within it. he frequently works together with new york minimalist phill niblock and sicilian electroacoustic improviser valerio tricoli, and other collaborators, mostly for live performances, have included tony conrad, maryanne amacher, jim o'rourke, kevin drumm and borbetomagus.

fabio selvafiorita - valerio tricoli death by water dsc7 cd digipack deluxe 2011 ltd 500. released in a 6-panel digipak die schachtel is proud to present death by water: a four-hand musique concrète composed by fabio selvafiorita and valerio tricoli. this one track disc has been realized between milan, where it has been composed, and giudecca island, in venice, the location of the field recordings and reel-to-reel tape treatments. the music stresses and questions the dramatic and alchemical potential of a musical landscape marked by water, as the work is intended to approach the fourth movement of t. s. eliot’s poem “the waste land”. fabio selvafiorita e valerio tricoli created a work full of narrative suggestions, visceral and metaphysical at same time iv. death by water phlebas the phoenician, a fortnight dead,  forgot the cry of gulls, and the deep sea swell and the profit and loss.                        a current under sea picked his bones in whispers.  as he rose and fell he passes the stages of his age and youth entering the whirlpool.                       gentile or jew o you who turn the wheel and look windward, consider phlebas, who was once handsome and tall as you. 3/4hadbeeneliminated oblivion dsz11 cd digipack deluxe 2010 ltd 500 copies die scahchtel is very happy to present the long-awaited return of 3/4hadbeeneliminated. the group (guitarist/double bassist stefano pilia, turntablist/sound assembler claudio rocchetti, tape manipulator/vocalist/guitarist valerio tricoli and percussionist toni arrabito) has created a work which is at the same time new and refreshing and yet completely consistent with their vision: a deep interaction between human, environment, traditional instruments and live electronics that creates a floating atmosphere filled with a natural energetic flow which borders on the psychedelic. thanks to the versatile use of the voice, capable of experimenting new solutions and suggestive ways of emission, and to the instrumental and electronic surround, they are able to create a three dimensional space, also thanks to the continuous switch between a concrete, rough world and a dream-like one. "oblivion" is their fourth full length album, and a further confirmation of the outstanding talent of these italian musicians.

andrea belfi - wege (cd) rm446 room40 wege translates as ‘path’ and it’s a fitting title for the latest rendering from master percussionist and experimental composer andrea belfi. the albums’ four pieces act as orientation points through some imaginary sonic landscape. wege is belfi’s fourth lp (the first with room40), and stems entirely from compositions completed at two artist-in-residence projects in austria (hotel pupik) and in brussels (q-o2 werkplatz). the album is built around a cyclic electro-acoustic system, through which belfi has developed a complex musical network of possibilities. with this electro-acoustic system, influenced in part by steve reich’s ‘pendulum music’, wege’s four pieces revolve around spiraling interconnections of synthesizer, feedback and drums. belfi explains further: this device creates feedbacks on two drums on my drum kit, and i can modify it by stopping and stretching the drum skins with hands and various kinds of sticks, mallets and brushes, and/or by filtering the feedback with an a modular synthesizer. edited in a quiet apartment in greifswald (germany) a small town on the baltic sea, the record bears marks of the stillness of the surroundings in which it was finalised. there is a sense of hushed awe and a subtle reference to the wind swept coldness of the landscape in these pieces. wege is mastered and mixed by giuseppe ielasi.
