| | back in stock. debut album from 1977 by this defining french chamber-prog ensemble, led by guitarist roger trigaux and drummer daniel denis. have always found their records a notch above the euro-prog swarm due to excessive contemporary-classical leanings (their instrumentation isn’t what you’d expect... bassoon, violin, viola, pocket cello, harmonium, spinet, as well as rock guitar & drums). sort of like stockhausen/stravinsky meet van der graaf in a time-portal, or ferneyhough/donald martino meet curved air/renaissance in a soy-cream rendering facility... |

| univers zero play fascinating, modern, chamber music-influenced rock. simultaneously gothic & futuristic, they are somewhat like the very best of magma or crimson, but infinitely darker, with helpings of eastern european folk melodies added. this band are completely deserving of the mystique & legendary status that have grown up around them. incomparable!
their first, this is a unique disc of dark, mostly acoustic chamber rock. |
