january 2009 release ; ... the mass-market debut of taylor richardson (sunburned member) & dan “oneohtrix point never” lopatin’s space-madrigal unit infinity window ...

whereas dan’s solo work has a more melancholy flair to it, these are straight atmosphere / lift-off burners, with layers upon layers of almost subliminally warbling synths cut with straight arpeggiations and gated patterns ... a few pages torn from the early tangerine dream / popol vuh cookbook(s), sure, but there’s enough in the way of modern synth-music sensibility (nary a phase-lock, fm, or pulse-width modulation to be found) at work here as to lift this out of the bin of pure pastiche and into the realm of pure mind-expansion ...

highly recommended !!!

arbor96 infinity window - "artificial midnight" lp

new york synth duo infinity window have been crafting their game for well over a year without much documentation. comprised of dan lopatin (oneohtrix point never) and taylor richardson (prehistoric blackout), this lp shows them at the pinnacle of self-realization. equally influenced by john carpenter and the taj mahal travelers, they create traveling music; music that has the power to transport and overwhelm the listener with vibes outside of those presently available to them. the a side consists of two tracks, both clouded in a heavy haze of fog, dark and heavy though their clarity exists underneath the shroud. the b side’s lone track “skull theft” is the full circle realization of the first two tracks: a light is illuminated and the fog begins to clear. mastered by keith fullerton whitman.

in an edition of 500 lps with full color pro-printed cardboard sleeves and printed labels with art by robert beatty (hair police / burning star core).

august 2008 release ; ruthlessly eclectic set from variable-depth lineups of sunburned, recorded both over in the u.k. and back here in good ‘ol massachusetts ...

everything from thrash metal, poetry (quite a lot of poetry, actually), anthemic noise-punk, sparse / spacious group-mumble, electro-acoustic improv, and so on ... (my favorite moment ? rob thomas doing his best bizzy bone impression in a cavernous stairwell) ...

one of the better of these low-run, band-produced editions ; feels like their “new album” and not a throwaway side/vanity project (kind of ballsy for a band of sunburned’s stature to release their “new album” as a self-produced double-cdr, isn’t it?) - this is prob. the first single title i’ve heard of theirs that even comes close to capturing the wide range of influences & iconography that’s been haunting the various members of the troop since day one. highly recommended !!!

ps ; just realized why i recognize adam nodelman’s name ; he was (briefly) borbetomagus’ 4th member !!!
