march 2011 release ; here & below are the first four titles on this post-pizza night tape label, run by sam “radio people” goldberg & issued in proper, professionally replicated / imprinted runs, complete with full-color nac inserts & the whole deal, in editions of slightly more than your average regional home-dupe (i.e. he’s stepped up his game, lost the casual-music connotations, & is focusing on getting otherwise un-repped masters of choice contemporary analogue electronic music out into the world in the “proper” manner ; kudos for that !!!) ...

nice to see this duo of julian “synaptic foliage” gulyas & adam “isle of sodor” miller pop up on a non-chm imprint ... here they slay with two long sides of exploratory “laboratory” wobble, recalling the whole japanese “vanity” scene (maybe with a little nord thrown in) inasmuchas the “bedroom” synth-invocations of our beloved domestic private-press scene ...

julian of cylindrical habitat and buddy adam miller who does isle of sodor cook up some darrrrk zones, somewhat of an industrial release from these two , while most kids there age are chugging beer thru a funnelor forming a neon crystal feather boa drocal band or a combo of both , these kids are harvesting raw sounds with all the right intentions, true stuff.

february 2011 release ; here & below are 16 (sixteen !!! 13 tapes, 2 cd-r’s & 1 lp) titles making up a spring 2011 batch from julian gulyas’ cylindrical habitat modules ... i’ll (temporarily) put aside my rage surrounding the disparity between when these were “released” into the wild(s) vs. when they actually existed in tangible form (by my count close to 2 months) ; w.u.t.b. at this stage, given the high levels of crystalline presentation & my general enthusiasm at the prospect of “working” this stuff ...

... here we get two high-ballast live-blasts from adam “isle of sodor” miller & julian himself, recorded in & around their general whereabouts (the midwest, usa) ... given recent trends in entertainment for & by young-adults, i’ll read this motion towards entirely abstract, melody-free, purely timbral live-electronic improvisation (as performed in a bar, no less) as the vanguard act it truly is ...

fifty-sixth module: comet bodies - live c30

two live tracks from the recent comet bodies+mcguire "tour" (one show in kent, ohio and one in columbus). hi-fi audience recordings of the "comet buddies" in full swing. deep space avant sci-fi electronics taking heavy influence from dudes like nik raicevic, morton subotnick etc... this tape finds us exploring some really dark corners and pissing off some kent bros.

fifty-third module: comet bodies - obsidian cartridge cdr

an extra menacing, weird continuation of the comet bodies vision, and the beginning of a new home-recordings era for the project. recorded in the grip of winter in cleveland ohio and originally produced for the comet bodies "tour" (actually just two ohio shows in early february). more science fiction oscillator spray with an almost gross-sounding edge not heard on previous comet bodies joints. definitely the dirtiest-sounding comet bodies set to date.

edition of 60, only 20 remain.

forty-eighth module: adema - dream cord c30

bleary winter collaboration between myself and the moth cock boys. two sides trimmed down from an extra-long session at the fairchild house. creepy deep space sub-jazz black hole jams, recorded live with a room mic but still retaining a weird hi-fi sound. extra proud of this tape and stoked to be jamming with two of the best dudes in the universe. also scope the moth cock live tape in this very batch! not to not be confused with the nu-metal band.

thirty-seventh module: heated void - mirror cubes c20

bizarre collaborative effort of brothers joseph and julian gulyas (synaptic foliage, etc.) tightly composed yet incoherent, truly weird sparkling nightmare electronics. fucked up alternate lightspeed carnival repetition. either really confusing or kinda creepy. drills into your brain then abruptly vanishes, ends like passing out in a mall. c20 of shorter compositions, can't really say too much else about it... super, super strange tape.

july 2010 release ; two takes from chm’s julian gulyas & adam miller, working some straight “forbidden planet” modes via their respective analogue setups ... that these two chose 60’s bleep-out over hnw, post-kranky “friendliness” drones, or even guitar center post-radiohead pedalboard moves is something that gives me great hope for the future of the “internet generation” ...

follow-up to april's "close to a world below" cassette, more insane vintage synth moves from the same session as the cassette. these ones are definitely far more sparse and bleak than the tape tracks; an hour of black-hole warp zones and endless arp drip from julian gulyas (synaptic foliage) and adam miller (isle of sodor), mastered and released as a cd-r for optimum audial freshness. truly bizarre and kind of draining. guaranteed to turn any vehicle into an inverting, folding vessel that will probably turn inside out and drive into itself. definitely don't drive with this on. weird.
