february 2011 release ; ... some real weirdo antics going on here, where sword heaven’s mark van fleet & american jobsnathan reynolds have set up camp, turned all their drum machines down as low as they’ll go (i wonder if you can actually power-starve a dm, like you can with a marshall stack ... no wait, you can’t) & have essentially been sustaining themselves on a thick paste of peanut butter & sriracha while attempting to concoct the “great american album” ...

and wouldn’t you know ; they’ve done it !!! trade in the rhythmic flair of sword heaven for more of a desultory, ohio-basement bummer trip, and you’re there ... equal parts blown / slown club beats, soul-baring, and raw, amplified electricity ...

providien
"followed by a wraith"
amethyst sunset 008

the midwest is a real shangri-la for bohemia basement bleakness so it’s not real surprising that loner tape grime duo providien hail from the snow-blasted state of ohio, and have a grim grassroots aura that just feels right.

led by sword heaven electrician mark van fleet and partner-in-crime/childhood friend nathan reynolds (also of weirdo goths american jobs), providien’s debut, “followed by a wraith”, sprawls from disembodied horror atmospherics to no-fi sludge death marches to pure weirdo home-taper acoustic guitar meltdowns, each new zone more unsettling and brainwashed than the last.

has elements of mammal (especially the recent drone-suicide ballads), the shadow ring (just replace all the british stuff with raw american sloth), and various other esoteric cassette miserablists, but that’s just a roundabout way of saying this shit rules.

the lp is limited to 200 copies on black vinyl with color center labels and a paste on cover

out there home entertainment (usa) #othe 2 ep

ryan jewell / face placesplit” seven inch single record

  • ryan jewell - untitled

  • face place - untitled
... nicely done split (issued as a clear-vinyl / silver-label 7” inside a clear plastic fold-over “sleeve”) covering the work of ryan jewell (who, with each turn, does less & less in the way of “percussion” - here with a minimal grinding room-tone study building into a tuned-feedback wall) & face place (aka sword heaven member mark van fleet & jen burton working some woozy tape-speed flair & grinding mechanical essence) ...
out there home entertainment press release...
ryan jewell / face place 7" - split 7" (out there home entertainment)

still don't know if this is 45 rpm or 33 rpm ???? both sound right to me! ryan jewell kicks things off on the a side with a twisting and turning assortment of totally weird and cool sounds . don't know if this is live jewell or what ? sounds like a studio jam or some kind of manipulated sound collage. ryan is always awesome on stage because you never know what kind of awesome shit he's gonna do , his tapes and cds are the same way and this 7" is no exception.

flip the record and you got the husband/wife duo of face place (jen burton of american jobs / birds of hair - and mark van fleet of sword heaven ) . this is a live recording and after hearing it i now know what speed the record is because of the crowd noise. pretty sure i was at this show but i don't remember it being so intense! on record i can turn it up until my brain hurts!

long-overdue vinyl debut from both of these aces ! second release on out there home entertainment . amazing see-through covers w/ killer clear vinyl ! nice!
