some of the more schooled of you may remember sticky from many years back when bananafish asked “hey, phone billists, is sticky a wanker?”, i knew the answer, even before i caught sight of his boufant and the tight salmon coloured strides. now the one time a-band member and former leith walk man about town spends his time chasing tail in columbia under the thinly veiled disguise of 'english teacher'. here mr pink breeks teams up with auld reekie chumps usurper for a mildly greasy stroll into the world of dwarfed out improv, you know the kind of miniscule clunk and clatter that keeps greg kelley up at night. two live sets (ithaca & brooklyn) from their usa tour and two bogata/edinburgh postal face offs.

february 2010 release ; first title we’ve had in stock from this scottish duo (ali robertson & malcy duff) dealing in pointillist free-improv utilizing a battery of sound-icons (rattles, whistles, bells, rasps, barbs, clackers, etc.) to yield an ... unpredictable array of noises that’s as much in debt to 70s / 80s uk free improv (specifically folks like the bohman brothers) as the new blockaders’ “anti music” ...

handsome artifact from eli keszler’s rel, consisting of a hand-assembled wrap-around lp sleeve, with a screen-printed pocket containing a 24-page comic from member malcy duff, casting oddly psychedelic eel-like characters into chris ware-ian block-forms ... highly recommended !!!

rel is proud to present the debut lp of the scottish duo usurper (ali robertson and malcy duff). creating a sound nearly impossible to describe, usurper combines obsessive metallic clunk, destroyed voices, broken horns and dropped marbles (?), into dense fields of activity. working towards an intuitive sound logic all it's own, usurper creates a surreal, comic structure that is unmatched and an energy that will make you laugh as soon as you shake your head in bafflement. the b side features a trio set with the addition of sticky foster (a band, prick decay, coffee) who blends seamlessly into the group. the lp is a one time, hand numbered edition of 200 copies with bold design featuring malcy duff's illustrations silk screened by ashley paul. the inside features a liner note pocket housing the full 16 page comic "2.1.3" by duff.
