the dim coast
the dim coast is steve bates first release, a diverse collection of sounds made with an eclectic array of recording materials. the cd is printed in a limited edition of 1000 and comes as a digipack.

steve is a musician, audio artist, and curator currently living in montrčal. his work usually involves the use of computers and cheap electronics (his guitar is often found not too far away, vibrating on an ironing board). an early infatuation with punk rock eventually lead to current areas of interest including site-specific and unheard/ignored sounds, improvised and composed performance, recording, installation and radio projects.
in 1998, steve founded send + receive: a festival of sound, an annual media arts festival active to this day. he is currently the sound coordinator at hexagram institute for research/creation in media arts and technologies at concordia university. |
