| july 2011 release ; ... second release on konrad “no ufo’s” jandav’s nice up international, serving up the second album from vancouver musician amir abbey’s secret pyramid project ...
... picking up a heavy popol vuh vibe throughout ; the mellotron-style choring that anchors the a-side (listen to the sound-sample for the introductory clarion call) coupled with the low / mbv-style buried acoustic guitars (barely audible under the din of gauzy guide-tone placement(s), their presence seemingly in place more for rhythmic purposes) & non-barrett / boyd-era floyd production flourish are all nice touches, belying a deep enthusiast’s command rather than an erstwhile “bedroom”, “loner” ...
... a really nice tape ; after a few seasonsworth of by-the-numbers “frozen” drone tapes, this shines as an example of what can still be done with the genre ... highly recommended !!! |
