... a nice idea ; two contemporary acts each reworking a hand-picked selection from krautrock demigods popol vuh’s vast canon of work - mika vainio’s rather odd choice of a piece from 1987’s “cobra verde” soundtrack is telling (he doesn’t strike me as someone all that interested in these back-catalogue “tribute” / remix projects) ... but haswell & hecker go right for the gold in picking the soundtrack to werner herzog’s “aguirre” ... inflecting the filtered-out mellotron drones & bell-chimes with fairly anachronistic lo-bit digital interference ... kind of awesome, actually.

popol vuh’s soundtrack work for the films of werner herzog in 1970’s and 1980’s are some of the most stunning in the field. editions mego is pleased to present 2 re-workings of classic vuh tracks. mika vainio takes ‘nachts: schnee’ from the 1987 soundtrack ‘cobra verde’, and delivers a skillfully constructed ambient piece of beauty, which shifts and turns over 10 minutes. haswell & hecker turn the majestic ‘aguirre i’ from the 1972 soundtrack ‘aguirre - the wrath of god’ into possibly the first track to be played at the last rave on earth. unlike recent h&h releases on warner classics and warp this does not utilize the upic system but vintage digital delays and freeze effect units, in conjunction with digital compositional tools.

this release is pressed on red vinyl and packaged in a plastic sleeve with a golden sticker.

masami akita aka merzbow is most certainly one of the doyens of experimental noise in the whole world. he once made an exclusive cd sold welded into a mercedes sound system and hired a club in cambridge, england to play his music back to back in a dark room for 3 solid days where people could go and spend as much time as they wanted to really live the experience.

russell haswell is a renowned artist in both london and new york; he has toured the world with aphex twin and supported autechre on their us and european tours of 2001. his un-compromising sets laden with sex and aggression lost him many fans, but the ones he won will be faithful forever. haswell is a man committed to the extremes in life; a love or hate type person.

satanstornade is probably the most extreme album ever released by warp.

originally released in 2001 as the companion to atp 1.0, all tomorrow's parties 1.1 was curated by sonic youth, and was initially created to accompany the all tomorrow's parties events held in los angeles and england.
