| “improvised music from austin, tx” lp
“great comp of various pieces and crews assembled by austin musician rick reed. the pieces are fine, open improvisations for an assortment of post-modern units, all of whom seem to operate w/ a power flow borrowed from their youthly exploits. great stuff." - byron coley.
“the music on this lp was recorded over a span of 15 years, starting sometime in 1980 and ending in 1995. this is in no way intended to be seen as a sort of solo album, with music created solely by me. it is a series of musical snapshots taken over the years with different people at different times, with myself as the only constant. the first piece 'king of clank' was recorded with my good friend david nuss (of the no neck blues band). 'the phantom' and the 'dr.h' tracks were recorded under completely different circumstances.
in 1990 i had just returned from living in los angeles for 3 years. my old band mate john french suggested that we try to record something new with his next door neighbor, diane murray, a very talented percussionist from atlanta. two things that i remember most about this time was john's weird recorder / feedback loop he hand going on the 'phantom' track, the other was how right on the money's diane's percussion playing was.
the second side presents 3 electronic compositions that i put together in 1986 with some archival material from tracks originally done in 1980." - rick reed |
