| october 2008 release ; i absolutely love it when a bunch of different planets align & artists whom i know about through one channel get their work out through another entirely ...
in this case, northampton, ma’s jeremy pisani’s debut album here was initially released by ron “pewtr” schneidermann on his spirit of orr label up near brattleboro, vt ; a copy of which must have landed in the hands of christoph heemann, halfway around the world in aachen, germany, resulting in this lavish lp reissue on his streamline label (p&d’ed by drag city, hence the “domestic” price) ...
musically speaking, this is off down its own avenue entirely - a mix of variable-fidelity fingerstyle acoustic guitar pieces, found sound, and woozy, tape-hiss addled minimalist-inspired overdub-collages that are all extremely effective in invoking that rarified “private universe” vibe i’m always going on about ...
fans of the first few six organs records will find similar themes explored herein (albeit in totally different configurations) ; but the best comparison i can make (and the one that ties this streamline edition together) is to the andreas martin & christoph heemann “lebenserinnerungen eines lepidopterologen” set ... highly recommended !!! |

| red favorite, a cycle of compositions for guitars, electronics and voices created by jeremy pisani was first released as a limited edition cd on spirit of orr and is now offered, as it was originally conceived to appear, on an lp. for this new release, streamline has brought its mystery and magic to vinyl. each of the grooves resonates with an ageless quality; the sound of a man making music in the decayed isolation of his own company. just like it used to be 200 years ago, when records were really records! but seriously, red favorite is a fabulous trip. and it's a lot more than some 200 year-old piece of shit! this is tomorrow's sound, via yesterday — but here today.
| he moved closer and looked through the peephole. and he saw: the world stretched out before him, a quiet and gentle space with a broad expanse of grass that practically glistened in its greenness. a sparkling brook ran through the meadow in the middle distance, and now he saw that the grass was dotted with the pale blue and soft yellow of many blooming flowers, which, half hidden in the grass, stared out at him like so many frightened eyes. on a distant hilltop stood a grove of small pink trees, covered and obscured by the astonishing pinkness of their blossoms. the world had a sense of freshness, as if it might only be minutes old -- washed clean by a careful springtime rain, dried and scrubbed by a solicitous breeze, burnished to its brightness by the rays of a gentle sun. it was an uncomplicated place, a very simple place. but what it had was quite enough; it had all it needed. |
