september 2007 release; the second from the “egyptian” nashazphone label & the first full-length i’ve been able to grip by the band pengo since their 2002 carbon-label “climbs the holy mountain” set (which isn’t to say they haven’t been prolific in the intervening years; in fact they’ve done albums for gods of tundra, audiobot, and hippie overdose - i just ain’t never seen ‘em...)

rochester's pengo is john schoen, r. nuuja and jason finkbeiner. 2/3 of them have previously played with arthur doyle. hailed as the world's most psychedelic band, they come back with "counterfeit memories" which could be their darkest statement so far. a departure from 1970's ugandan extravaganza into possibly the synapses of its then leader.
