first collaboration between solo electronic experimentors nick forté and dino felipe. shaggy black is deeply processed, yet presents an undeniably organic presence; a unique anomaly of both resplendent and savage textures. the union of man-made and machine-based sounds creates a truly fucked, purely psychedelic atmosphere of sonic scrawl and blistering fuzz with strange sounds permeating throughout. whimsical & frenzied carnival-like creations are jettisoned with moody, slightly terrifying washes. valid (yet vague) aural comparisons might be made to alvin lucier, fennesz, markus popp, sunroof!, wolfgang voight and boredoms.

april 2009 release ; third wodger, a solo lp from christmas decorations’ nick forté, recorded live to cassette during the summer of 2008 ...

an impressively wide array of approaches, from clattering drum kit abuse, to segments of harsh noise, to company-week-lineage scrabbly improv, to the kinds of effected, arbitrary instrumental performance seen mainly in the “sound-art” sector (on a blind listen in a “listening room” context i would more likely guess this was something from the anton bruhin / alga marghen axis than anything contemporary - the cassette-master fidelity lends well to a certain timelessness) ...

comes in a 3-color silk-screened / letter-pressed sleeve, with a bright red “disco” jacket holding the lp inside ; highly recommended !!!

nick from christmas decorations took a break from his many collaborations to hibernate in his mountain home with piles of instruments and electronics. tiny fragments of his voice turn up too.

here the band follow-up their 2006 community library-label “communal rust” (itself a follow-up to their 2002 kranky-label “model 91”) with a far more textural & free-limbed approach to group-sound dynamics ; popol vuh’s ghost is close-at-hand in spots (listen to the sound-sample) & the focus on drones & skittering, electronically-derived projections brings this much closer to the spectral assemblies of the laptop brigade (fennesz, specifically) than anything else ...

... comes as a 180-gsm lp, chipboard sleeve fastened inside a matchbook-style letterpressed folio ; an auspicious start for this series ...

christmas decorations - far flung hum

wodger's first release is the third christmas decorations lp far-flung hum. we recorded it in the catskills mountains in upstate new york in summer 2007. the outdoor sessions on the back porch were particularly fun and memorable. it's the first recording from our expanded quartet lineup, which allowed us to rely more on live performances. the letter-press cover looks a lot more impressive in person than on our site.
