 guitar, drums and electronics. there are no further requirements for turning the world on its head. since their inception in 2002, mouthus from brooklyn have delighted and enraptured their audience. thundering noise eruptions, mail-fisted guitar drones, infernal drumbeats and an indomitable drive are these devilish duos hallmarks. this is undiluted rock ‘n’ rock for noise junkies. when it comes to live performances, mouthus are unbeatable. nevertheless, in order to nourish the other parts of the soul, mouthus alternate their teeth-grindingly loud shows with recordings into which rage and energy are consummately channelled. no canal follows a different path altogether. guitarist brian sullivan and drummer nate nelson lead the listener on a journey of exploration. past bricked-up walls of sound and through a swamp of drones the duo descries a terra incognita, a dark world of sound in which innocent idylls of nature are soon subjected to the destructive forces of industrialisation.

initially, pastoral guitar parts are heard, pursued by drums in the distance. this is ethereal music in the tradition of bands like popol vuh. the promised land is hidden behind low mist and impenetrable green. but all hope proves idle: torturing guitar feedback and tribal drums soon tear the dream apart. the industrial torrent of sound seems unstoppable. this is music that reveals itself as a tired, technological beast with a slow heartbeat and creaking limbs. the subliminal menace and naked demise remain audible and tangible. this is a story that has to be told. mouthus cannot be silenced.

no canal is packed in the beautiful 'envelope' packaging, designed and hand printed by jason dodge & christine roland, a one-off pressing of 250 copies.

perhaps appropriately, follow this house was recorded following a european tour in a state of profound limbic haze and completed and finalized during the unforgetable heat wave of july 2006. these facts make a whole lot of sense since follow this house sounds like your entire record collection melting in the trunks of a hundred junk yard cars on a hazy, steamy, sweltering hot summer afternoon.

follow this house by mouthus is a companion piece to their 2005 full length for important titled the long salt. picking up right where the long salt left off, follow this house is a record chock full of manic bad mood energy, crunching resin-soaked jams and hundred year old instrumentation ermerging from the soggy mire only to be slowly pushed back in by poison clouds of delayed-out vocal groan.

mouthus are on a stated mission to incorporate new sounds and new instrumentation into their recordings. never repeating themselves follow this house is less fractured and more minimal, embracing the mouthus sludgefest like a settling foundation.

leagues away/under the rest of the no fun roster (they’ve always the odd ducks out ...) this is much closer to the quiet-storm continuum of classic / contemporary psychedelic rock running from arthur lee’s love right on through royal trux et.al - this disc collects their o/p heavy tapes 12”, their “side” of the split tour cdr w/ airport war, ditto w/ woods, and a few otherwise unreleased tracks (two of which feature nnck’s dave nuss) ...

rk are one of my favorite acts going right now from any scene ; very glad to have this material all in one place (for easy reference / naysayer-swaying purposes) - highly recommended !!!

record delivers on a bunch of different fronts ; mouthus’ low-end zombie-percussion flare-outs thrill throughout, yellow swans’ ring-modulated everything & guitar wash blaze a clean path through the middle of the frequency-spectrum (i’m thinking with a urei 565t one might be able to extract two separate mouthus/ys duo records out of the cleaner-than-average sounding murk herein) ... just killer.

the ultimate east coast/west coast soundclash as oregon’s yellow swans and brooklyn’s mouthus present a smouldering document from their onstage interactions on their fall 2006 us tour.

the sound of mouthus’s splat & clatter percussion and sheets of severely altered guitar and voice noise paired with yellow swans’ raucous axe-mangling and sublime noise processing make for a gargantuan oil tanker of sound that can’t avoid enveloping the listener.

‘live on conan island’ is a range of monstrous caverns of free electro skronk, alt-percussion and wailing guitars from live collaboration between two of load's hottest noisemongers. gigantic !

a side each of fertile noise-rot from montreal's cousins of reggae and brooklyn's mouthus. soundly rejected by discovery channel, the cousins' five-track suite about the hudson bay follows up their limited and hard-to-find debut lp (on ohnonoise) and a recent cd-r on mouthus's our mouth imprint. they set sail with some hyperactive stompers and narcoleptic stumblers intent on capsizing all vessels in their path before coming under attack by a squadron of pissed off jet-skiers. on the flip are two massive mouthus jams : 'new drugz' and 'better than facemask' which perfectly capture a day spent peaking on mescaline at the daytona 500.

february 2008 release ; yaysrlp (yet another yellow swans related lp - i kid; i love you guys ...) this time a full-length collaboration featuring two side-long pieces jammed out by pete & gabe in accordance with the mouthus duo of brian sullivan & nate nelson ...

the first side contains almost dubbed-out early-industrial feeling track could easily be a 23 skidoo out-take ; fidelity-wise more of the mouthus end of things ... the second is a super low-pass / washed-out scorched-earth tumbler (the sound-sample) that just slays me ; little feedback/oscillator whisps & chord progression remnants creeping out from under rocks & stray cart parts littered about the lawn, nothing above 2k ...

yes, both of these bands are insanely prolific, i agree ... but as long as they keep making these epic side-long flare-outs (and labels ... exist to issue them on lp) i’ll keep paying attention; and loving every minute ...

earliest of the wintage “split” tapes in stock ; each of these come as a meticulously spray-painted tape in a spray-painted uline single-cassette mailer w/ (in the case of this one at least) inserts & posters ... extremely deluxe for a cassette-only release ...

please note :: each copy of these wintage “split” tapes comes with two 8.5” x 14” posters (one for each artist, detailed below) ; if you want me to ship your posters flat, i will gladly do so as i have just enough 9” x 14” mailers on hand, but keep in mind that these will not fit in the mailers i use to ship lp records (i.e. 12.5” x 12.5”) ... if you are interested in these lovely tape/poster sets & want them to arrive intact, i would greatly appreciate discrete orders for these & these alone ...
