strictly limited vinyl lp edition. different colour on front. 500 copies only.

ultralyd is kjetil møster (the core) on sax, anders hana (moha!) on guitar, kjetil d. brandsdal (noxagt) on bass and morten j. olsen (moha!) on drums and vibraphone. this is their third album since the band was formed by legendary sax player frode gjerstad in 2004. gjerstad left after their second album ”chromosome gun” (load records) to be replaced by møster. during two extensive european tours and several studio sessions ultralyd's direction has slowly changed from a rather chaotic free rock approach towards composition and more structured forms of improvisation, experimenting with different layers and altered roles of the instruments, integrating elements from contemporary and electronic music, funk and doom metal and ending up with an album that might be classified as something akin to the improvised chamber rock king crimson were doing around 1973.

out of norway's super-fertile impro scene, moha! are boldly leading the way with a sound that encompasses the best of rock, free jazz and electronic music. despite the enormity and broad spectrum of sounds that constitute their unique style, it is the work of just two talented young men, anders hana (24) on guitar, obsolete electronics and a pallete of effects pedals, and morten j. olsen (25) on drums, triggering a multitude of noises from each skin and cymbal using custom built software.

having played together in various projects for close to 10 years, they have developed a high level of control and understanding in their musical communication. they compliment and confront each other, with sharp and mechanical movements on one hand, free flowing and loose gestures on the other. it´s a real scorcher; short, intense, to the point and brimming with head explosions, youthful energy and urgency.

rcd 2049 - moha!: raus aus stavanger

moha! is our latest signing and the youngest artists on the label as well, the duo being guitarist anders hana (23) and longtime friend and musical collaborator, drummer morten j. olsen (24). anders is also a member of jaga, noxagt, ultralyd and ingebrigt flaten quintet while morten is a member of ultralyd and have played with a number of improvisers, including axel dörner, fred frith and the late steve lacy.

”raus aus stavanger” was recorded in the analogue heaven of athletic sound, home of great sounding releases from supersilent and scorch trio. and these two acts are musically the closest neighbours to moha! in our catalogue. ”raus aus stavanger” was recorded live in the studio with no overdubs, showing two young musicians at a very high level of control, communication and creative powers, the music being a powerful mix of high energy improv, slowburning drone riffing and detailed electronics. a most refreshing addition to the catalogue!
