finally ; a way to hear a full mirror album without investing upwards of $80 in an “artist’s edition” (which i’m all for - but only when coupled with a “mass market” issue such as this) ... this is just a gorgeous blend of drone-guitar epiphany supplied by h.n.a.s.’ christoph heeman, ferial confine’s andrew chalk, and andreas martin.

newly re-mastered cd version makes available (again) one of heemann and chalk's most peculiar, early aural odysseys. for their fifth project, nightwalkers, mirror teamed-up with andreas martin (mimir member and multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire) for a set of pieces that could well be their most adventurous and bizarre still yet. the result is an incredibly mysterious series of turbulent and richly spacious explorations that is curiously active, but at the same moment appears suspended in time. the subtle inclusion of rhythmic elements with sustained tonalities reveals ominous, distant landscapes and hallucinogenic excursions into further uncharted territories.

now available on cd in a full color digipak, reproducing the original album artwork and insert.

this is an expert-level mix of contemporary electro-acoustic minimalism & musique concrète styles (heemann’s doing) laced with gorgeous electric & acoustic guitar playing (ditto martin) that channel both the more rustic end of the 70s “krautrock” spectrum and/or the hörpsiel & tape-collage that came out of the wdr in the 80s ...

this new version comes in a nice stoughton mini-gatefold sleeve with a booklet reprinting the original record covers (martin’s “doppelpunkt vor ort” is still one of my favorites) ; if you want to hear heemann at his mid-period best, this a fantastic place to start & anyone currently enamored with mark mcguire’s music owes it to themselves to check out andreas’ tracks herein, all borne of the same acoustic guitar / loop-box conventions ... highly recommended !!!

'lebenserinnerungen eines lepidopterologen' 2cd

unavailable for over 10 years, this new edition of "lebenserinnerungen eines lepidopterologen" ("memoirs of a lepidopterist") collects the collaborative and early solo works of andreas martin and christoph heemann as an extensive 2cd retrospective. moving between minimalist guitar compositions, tape-music narratives, and an array of cascading electronics, each of martin and heemann's solo recordings blend seamlessly within the milieu of their collaborative work. while one can hear how this forged the groundwork for much of the late-period h.n.a.s. material, the work here took the vision further, and helped shape a path toward their respective solo endeavors.
included are compositions from their first solo releases: martin's "doppelpunkt vor ort" (1993) and heemann's-"uber den umgang mit umgebung und andere versuche" (1991), each originally released as small edition 10" vinyl. also featured is a prime selection of previously unreleased material, obscure 7" tracks, and their collaborative opus from the (h.n.a.s.) "ach, dieser bart!" lp (1988).

this deluxe set includes two additional tracks (not appearing on the previous edition), remastered audio, and fully restored visuals. all packaged in a beautiful mini-lp gatefold jacket with an updated 4-page booklet. over 100 minutes of music covering the years 1987-2000.

"an uncommon nature" lp

coinciding with the 10th anniversary of anomalous records' existence, we are releasing a compilation album based around recordings from the outdoors, and featuring artists we release or are going to in the near future. featured on this lp are new recordings from: jeph jerman, mirror, agog, climax golden twins, jonathan coleclough, mike shannon, monos, richard lerman, and dave knott. throughout the packaging, and on four enclosed postcards, are beautiful black and white photographs taken by rachael jackson in the olympic national park in washington state.

while unified by a common theme, the tracks are quite varied including desert contact mic recordings of rain and wind on a tree [jeph jerman], processed sounds of a gate [jonathan coleclough], erhu played on a beach [mike shannon], mysterious singing 'water babies' [agog], a mixture of wild celery stalks, tundra grass, a cord made from sinew, a whalebone roof support and the seals [richard lerman], and the straight recording of an approaching thunderstorm [dave knott].

this attention to detail in audio is matched by the close up photographs of fungi, dripping sap, and trees which surrounds it.
