| a very nice ep of fairground moogsploitation from “man from uranus”, about whom i know little... but through the powers of sheer conjecture i gather that he’s a massive yuri gagarin/felix kubin fan, dotes at the tomb of goodiepal, takes pages from the perrey/kingley school off oddnikery, and just really likes louis & bebe barron’s score for “forbidden planet.”
the whole ep drips with echos of atomic-era sound - primitive organ-combo drums, stilted synth-melodies, plenty of lfo’ed oscillations, etc...not entirely un-like the les baxter and martin denny moog records, updated just slightly for the daw era... |
| | strange lights press release... |
| eight tracks of retro-futuristic moog tunes, space soundtracks and avant garde noise from man from uranus, presented on slow-turning, black 7-inch vinyl. mfu uses theremin, reel to reel tapes, analogue keyboards, modular synths, drum machines, random electronics, and shortwave radio to produce a loose and lo-fi take on early electronic and experimental music, sci-fi and library sounds, as well as rock, from kraut to space to psych.
influences come from jean-jacques perrey, bruce haack, and raymond scott to stereolab, sun ra, and stockhausen. |
