kawabata makoto's early works : learning from the past - r.e.p. reissue series. edition of 500 copies. these recordings from 1981 feature kawabata only on all instruments and voice. psychedelic and droney with vocals buried underneath - this is the best (so far) i've heard of kawabata's early works. this is the first volume in this limited edition series. features two twenty two minute plus tracks and is housed in a slip case with re-sealable plastic sleeve with a vintage photo of kawabata from back in 1981.

kawabata makoto (leader of japanese collective the acid mothers temple) has created o si amos a essere duas umbras? in tribute to sardegna where kawabata's creative life recently achieved a highly influencial spiritual climax. according to kawabata, these recordings represent one of the most important moments in his life.

while in sardegna he found his "cosmos." at some point on his trip, a new cosmos opened for him and he received "many wonderful vibrations" from these cosmos. these are the very first of his works created after this transcendental experience. hearing and feeling these tracks it is apparent that kawabata has been deeply spiritually affected since his last solo outing.

o si amos a essere duas umbras? is comprised of two epic, deeply meditative, spiritual and transcendental compositions. track one, titled "ses aintro ‘e mene finzas si ses in s'atter'ala e su mundu" is the very first solo track kawabata has ever recorded on an acoustic guitar. filtered through 3 reverb units and a single delay this epic acoustic track starts off droning but quickly builds with reverb drenched and finger picked momentum light years away from any of kawabata's solo guitar work.

the second major composition is the album's namesake. this deeply spiritual electric guitar drone was also played through 3 reverb units and a single delay machine. drawing the listner in, these drones resonate deeply and numbly seduce the active listener into a meditative state capable of understanding what kawabata makoto means when he says he found his "cosmos."

if you're having trouble actualizing your cosmos, or even understanding kawabata's spiritual experience, take this home and put on your headphones. the skies will open and you'll be full of vibrations.

one of the most celebrated japanese underground bands have returned! it may have taken over 12 years, but kawabata makoto, guitar guru and head honcho in acid mothers temple, has finally decided to get his celebrated 'psychedelic solid free attack group' back together. joining original mainliner members kawabata makoto (motorpsycho guitar) and koji shimura (drums) is new recruit kawabe taigen (bass/vocals) and the trio still kick up one hell of a sonic racket.

confusion surrounds the exact details of the recording, but they seem to date from december 2011, and from kawabata's mountain top temple studio-cum-home. the man himself, as always, is shying away from sharing too many of the magick details about the mainliner rebirth. and the stark, minimal black with gold sleeve keeps the mystery intact, apart from the grainy band photo on the rear.

all said, 'revelation space', is a comeback statement of intent. and it's firmly in the same 'in the red / raw' camp as the original trio's classic 'mellow out'. from the initial speaker shaking feedback burst of opener 'revelation space', right through to the closing 20-minute epic 'new sun' (which showcases taigen's otherworldly howl perfectly) there is no let up in the brutal delivery.

this will no doubt delight those mainliner diehards who never thought they'd see the day again, and all those with a love of over the top guitar howls and punishing feedback levels, but always under pinned by some righteous grooves.

third album proper from this japanese trio consisting of emi nobuko (drums) and acid mothers temple duo higashi hiroshi (bass) and kawabata makoto (guitar).

all the music on this four song / 66 minute album was completely improvised, and not over-dubbed. the sounds fall through different styles of head splitting walls of sonic noise, quiet introspective lulls and freeform freakouts. tsurubami (pronounced without the 't') recently made their live debut in the uk & ireland as part of the 'acid mothers temple soul collective' tour with fellow collective members pardons and makoto kawabata playing solo. the tour was a great success and tsurubami in particular blew a few eardrums and minds along the way.

limited to 5000 copies on cd and 1000 on double-lp.

after a december 2001 japanese tour together, the two bands did a bit of home-recording together. kinski’s chris martin in the record’s liner notes: “months and months later, i sat down with the tapes and began mixing what seemed to be the most interesting 10 minutes of the session, which became ‘it’s nice to hear your voice.’ kawabata [makoto] wanted to overdub onto my mix (along with tsuyama, acid mothers’ bassist, who wasn’t at the original sessions) and the results are ‘planet crazy gold.’ ‘fell asleep on your lawn’ and ‘virginal plane 5:23’ are new kinski and acid mothers temple tracks (respectively).”

the untitled cd of duets by the nowadays unavoidable acid mothers temple leader kawabata makoto and the somewhat less available glasgow librarian richard youngs shows the pair in a relaxed, yet psychedelic mood. the five untitled tracks here play simple modal melodies performed on acoustic guitar, autoharp, organ, voice etc against swirling production and layers of shifting audio haze.

track 1 has richard's immediately identifiable voice, guitar, and autoharp against kawabata's spacey echo treatments - track 3 reverses the process with richard's minor key picking cutting against kawabata's thick, visceral bowed drones. tracks 2, 4, and 5 all use a base of lovely fingerpicked guitar melodies, layering on organ, synth, tape effects, and echo until a suitably mellow cosmic vibe is achieved.

all in all, some of the most beautiful sounds ever issued by either of these two gents, best known for their edgy experimental work - and support of pro wrestling and antique hunting, respectively.

may 2003 double dream date with a good chunk of the more ‘relevant’ akts in contempo-tronica taking on one of mr. akita’s better ‘digital age’ efforts. frighteningly high signal-to-noise-to-signal ratio when pitted against other recent all-star remix efforts. very odd lineup given the source material (bola?) but a substantial work transcending mere remix-compilation status...

artists were asked to use merzbow's album amlux (imprec-02) as an instrument in an original composition, rather than to perform the conventional remix. we hoped that this would allow the artist to flourish with greater creative freedom and a less restrictive context. we didn't want to fit this project into any sub-genre of music. we wanted it to simply exist. perhaps the beat oriented tracks, record scratching and vocals will annoy some noise purists, and perhaps the noisy sound collages will irritate others, but hopefully this collection of tracks from some of the best electronic artists working today will enlighten the listener. music is sound and sound is everywhere, regardless of classification.
