kevin corcoran's official discography spotlights the wide range of his drumming repertoire -- witness the arty-free jazz punk stylings of antennas erupt! (s-s records), the bombastic blasts on his various weird forest 7"s, the more subdued percussion on his americana-cum-improv trio with christian kiefer and tetuzi akiyama (digitalis) and most recently, the incredibly tight avant-rock drum beats featured with garrincha & the stolen elk (stunned).

but left to his own devices, corcoran is much more interested in subtle, quiet sounds and haptic music is the first release spotlighting solely his ideas. these pieces reflect his interest in percussion as timbre gestures (touching texture, sounding surfaces with objects, droning cymbals) where rhythm is not the major aspect but underscores or enables certain movements.

haptic music was recorded between 2008 and 2010. acoustic and amplified percussion improvised and recorded live.

pro-dubbed chrome cassettes come with embossed paste-on covers and professional full-color j-card inserts.

late 2009 release ; righteous free-blast blat from weird forest’s chad stockdale, kevin corcoran, and derek monypeny ... the drum / sax / guitar lineup (and in fact the reigning fidelity) do remind of masayuki takaganagi / new direction for the art’s triumphant “la grima” set, even if this is a far more iterative affair (although, yes, both pieces do climax into a fury of overloaded trio group-mind blaze) ...

the “hated music” + 7” single == win, every time ...

dmph self-titled 7"

dmph is a new sacramento-oakland free improv trio consisting of chad stockdale (tenor sax), kevin corcoran (drums/percussion) and derek monypeny (guitar). this record finds them starting from intuitive scatter/splatter into a deep, dense windtunnel on side a (oakland), while on side b (sacramento) a similarly conversational beginning leads to a highly electricified freakout squall that might put some heads in mind of last exit.

clearly, these guys have done their homework. derek plays guitar in the magnificent bay area group oaxacan and kevin has recorded with such luminaries as tetuzi akiyama and christian kiefer. chad has previously appeared on records with kevin and is one half of the free jazz duo klondike & york.

limited to 200 copies on black vinyl.

this is the high and mighty speaker shredding first documentation of the duo of chad stockdale (klondike and york) and kevin corcoran (antennas erupt, get get go,). the idea behind this album was to make a hardcore record but through free jazz idioms. i played my tenor through a rat pedal and kevin got in touch with his inner hardcore monster for the drums. chris woodhouse recorded for maximum potency. this is a seven-inch of loud whirlwind sudden blasts of howling, house-flattening, molten meltdown compression, chamber, free core. i'm very happy with this record. it came out just like i wanted.

limited to 300 copies on yellow vinyl with fantastic see-through cover art.
