there are still so many people steady trippin’ off the futurists and trying to make it faster and louder but it does that on it’s own. when screw decided to upend the idea of time and how one can listen to time, shit slowed everything down and it made sense. houston, the sprawl, the heat, the poverty. detroit, the sprawl, the cold, the poverty. there is a kinship and affection between the 1/4 speed, slo-mo, basement jazz and houston’s favorite codeine addict.

this recording was made with tapes, test presses, outtakes, all played in real time against graveboyz own post-cubist approach to screw mixing us from, where else? the graveyard. chopped up not slopped up. chris riggs adds his destroyed strings to the mix.

this set was manufactured as a “fundraiser” for their fall 2009 european tour ; mms received half of the tiny pressing to help the guys out (i.e. this is only available here & out on the ‘ol lonesome road) ... naturally, it comes highly recommended !!!

fairly browned-out full-wave rectification(s), dropping out for a crackly little number before returning to full-bore thud at the piece’s close (listen to the sound-sample for the last bit of that) ... just the kind of thing to turn a bright, sunny day full of promise & wonder into one where you consider slitting your wrist(s) ; straight-up-dismal ... also, highly recommended !!!

compared to later recordings (often mired in murk, dripped across entire lp sides) this is something of a “young person’s guide” to their work, and as such it’s possible my all-time favorite ...

i asked john to write something about this but he never got around to do so. dylan's fest in the uk came between i think. however, this is a heavily psychedelic drone trip from john & tovah olson from detroit. dark soundtrack muzak that will rule your skull... intense but laid back... the best recording i heard from the dead machines, no doubt. it comes packed in a beautiful b/w cover with a full colour inlay. and -it's limited to 600 copies. act fast baby.

early 90s blow-out by this group featuring wolf eyes’ john olson & ex-cocaine’s bryan ramirez (the two also played together in universal indians) ... sort of like the recent ecstatic peace! poor school lp (on which ramirez plays) ... only far more drug-addled & w/o the “rock” ...

1993 - we got our cherries busted with youth noise and desperate freedom. it was a call for musical separation from everything that plugged in and we fuckin got it. we (jeff dunn, john olson & bryan ramirez) met many evenings per week for over a year solid, most likely cranked around 200 sessions all recorded on 90 minute tapes - roughly 9000 minutes - all ground into dust, gone. shit was molded in the walls of 1610 kzoo st. lansing, mi, or ransacked by noise bums, or recorded over. but, there was one that got away from the doomhole - a second generation cassette.

the recording was at 6am before ramirez was to catch a flight to florida - road cone gravity bongs sent this fucker into sleepy-eyed wee-mugs that filed along towards school - periodically glancing at the house to hear this horrendous alien arguement thundering from sax/drums/guitar/keys all aligned in the rocket room. the recording is shattering.

minced analog skreedom recklessly curing informal ills and breaking windows from pure soundwave pressure. free sound from the early years all innocent-like. pure and demented is pure demented freedom. screened covers - killer liners/history lesson by john olson - limited run.

ann arbor, mi’s wolf eyes are at the forefront of a quickly expanding american noise scene. the trio of nate young, aaron dilloway and john olson are the epitome of the self-sufficient musical entity. olson and dilloway have their own labels (american tapes and hanson records respectively) that have been releasing cassettes, cdrs, 7”s, lps and just about every other format, often in painfully limited editions, of wolf eyes material since young first used the moniker in 1997.

their existence as a trio dates to 2000. and they’ve since released albums on bulb (dread, 2001) and troubleman unlimited (dead hills, 2002).

the music that wolf eyes creates is truly terrifying; the soundtrack to street fight that erupts into outright incineration. sonic touchstones include throbbing gristle, early cabaret voltaire, black flag, whitehouse, pre-asheton destroy all monsters, negative approach, swans and early sonic youth. the advocacy of the latter has led to many opening slots and a spot on the entire 2004 lollapalooza tour.

during the last euro tour of wolf eyes, john olson (american tapes) and mike connelly (gods of tundra) decided it was enough! they screamed “i’m not going to bed!!! i never wanna sleep again!!!”,

they missed their flights and stayed in antwerp with the ultra audiobored horror crew for 7 more weeks without food and drinks, just dry weed and cancerbags to suck on! after that intense test to see if they could adapt to the antwerp life style, they finally met up with legendary belgian eccentric cacti and hat collector cassis cornuta, this psychadelic caracter brought his whole space synth and tape lab over to radio centraal to record and intense last gasp jam with the hardly breathing olson and connelly, the end result is an amazing trip to space and back to the mental hospital!

comes in a gross 6 panel cover design and with an etch on the b side!
