| november 2009 release ; here’s a fine lp of electro-acoustic music from mms customer joe musgrove, self-issued on his pleasing everyone all the time imprint (in a pittance of an edition of 120) ...
performed by joe (electronics, zither, percussion, clarinet, prepared guitar, tapes, toy instruments, sundry objects, digitalia) along with rebecca healy (foot pump, first side) and andrew thompson (violin & electronics, second side), the piece harkens back to organum’s mid-late 80s music (the ominous glow of airy, gaseous ambiences act as a bed for more pointillist, iterative scrabbling) or even jim o’rourke’s early tape pieces ...
amidst the flurry of submissions we get every month (mostly, still, laptop drones with pretty trees on the cover) this one really stood out as something unique, bridging a “modern composition” sensibility with a certain 80s underground tape-trader vibe (certainly the cover, which could easily be mistaken for an early steve tibbets album, sets it apart) ... great stuff !!! |
